Dota 2

  (Edited: )

Hello my good folks! Opening a thread for general discussion and talk about Dota 2 here, since we don't have one already?

So, Blues, what is Dota 2?

Dota 2 is a MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena), sometimes called aRTS (action Real Time Strategy), a game where you team up with 4 other players to compete against other 5. Each player select a Hero from the rooster (92 currently from the total of 110 from original Dota), each one with unique characteristics, abilities and playstyle and your main objective is to destroy the Ancient (a large structure) in your oponnent base, while fighting for control of the map and lanes against your opponent Heroes and computer-controlled creatures, called creeps. You gain gold by getting the last hit on creeps, by killing or assisting in kills on enemy heroes and you spend gold in a vast selection of items that can alter your gameplay drastically, making your Hero stronger in a lot of factors. You also gain experience by being close do enemy creeps when they die or killing them, also on enemy Hero kills and advance in levels, up to level 25 in the match. Each level gives you a point for you to buy a skill or raise the level of one you already have. Almost every hero has a ultimate, a skill stronger than all the others s/he have for the impact they can have in the game, which you can buy only at level 6, 11 and 16.

My impressions on Dota2

I played the original Dota All-Stars on Warcraft 3 back to 2006 and even though some friends disagree with me, I see only evolution in Dota 2, be it engine, graphically or anything else. The main problem in Dota 2 is that it's quite unforgiving for new players, considering it's a multiplayer team game, you rely heavily on your team mates and sometimes players can be harsh.

Wow, this is awesome, but how can I get it?

Well, Dota 2 will be free to play once it's released, but for now it's still closed beta. You can try doing Valve's survey, or maybe someone here in the forums has some keys to share. Either way, I'll leave some links below.

New player? Read this (I know, it looks a bit harsh, but it's a harsh world out there, it's the better for you, my good friend): http://www.playdota.com/guides/welcome-to-dota-you-suck

Alt tab guides? No problem, here ya go: http://dota2alttab.com/

Also, I think we can use the thread to share Steam IDs so people here on Day[9] forum can play together. GLHF, guys. :D
