Taunts or Totemic Might

If you have a totem early in the game, like on turn two, putting out totemic might makes it hard for them to kill it in their next turn. Though either way, I think the best way to keep totems out is to put taunting creatures out. Some people might ignore a totem if you manage to get a lot of threatening stuff out with it, but good players will see the threat that totems pose and try to get rid of them right away. So you'll probably have to force them to not target the totems by putting out taunting creatures.
