TUG - A study in gaming...

  (Edited: )

*DISCLAIMER*  I know this isn't Starcraft related, or even related to Day[9], but when I asked myself, "Self, where is the best place to get the word out about this awesome new game being created by scientists and mathematicians and nerds?"  I thought immediately of the great community here at Day[9]TV.  I hope you can all get as enthused by this project as I am, and if this post is against any forum rules, by all means please remove it and notify me of the proper way to get this information out to people here.

I don't know if you've heard of TUG, as I've only recently discovered it myself.  It is a multiplayer open-world sandbox-RPG using new technology and social sciences to directly involve players in the game’s design.  It's being developed by a group called Nerd Kingdom, and seriously, they have more PhD's than Big Bang Theory.  The team has serious ambition for the game.  Through their open design process they hope to create a truly unique experience that hasn't been seen in the gaming community.

The reason for my posting this in Games In Academia is the fact that Nerd Kingdom wishes to use TUG to study a variety of different topics.  I'm not very well versed in these, but I know that many hail from the socio/political school of thought, and all manner of data is going to be gathered (if you wish to allow it) to be used in these various studies.  Ultimately, this is a game with research in mind.

I know I have high hopes for this game, but don't take my word for it!  Read what they've posted on their Forums and Kickstarter Page (the kickstarter period is over, but if you wish to contribute still, they have a paypal option that runs till the end of July).

Lastly, check out this short video made by the developers.
