- 2 oz rye whiskey (Bulleit Rye, Templeton or Rittenhouse preferable)
- 0.5 oz sweet vermouth
- 0.5 oz dry vermouth (Martini & Rossi works great)
- 1 dash Angostura bitters
- 1 maraschino cherry
- Ice cubes
- Mixing glass (anything you can stir/shake)
- Drinking glass, chilled (coupe or martini glass works best)
Pour the ice, whiskey, vermouth and bitters into the mixing glass.
If you got a shaker, shake it! If you're mixing, stir until slightly chilled.
Strain the liquor into the cold coupe or martini glass, make sure no ice gets in there or the drink could become watery.
Drop a maraschino cherry in, and cheers! A classic whiskey beverage to savor-- but be careful, it's strong!
Originating in the Manhattan club in 1870's New York, this classic whiskey drink has many variations. The mix of both sweet and dry vermouth in a "perfect" Manhattan give it a balanced flavor, ideal for relaxing at the end of the day.
