Hey Sean, It would be awesome to watch you play this game. It's an indie 2D side scrolling Action/Adventure/RPG/Platformer game with AMAZING gameplay, a beautiful soundtrack and a solid storyline (possible feels to be had). All the characters are fully voiced. The combat is extremely fun, flashy and responsive. There is a lot of enemy variety and the pacing of the game itself is great. It has a lot of easter eggs and references (Resident Evil 4/Castlevania) if you look around. The only weakness is its lack luster boss battles (but it does have 4 different difficulties).
What makes it all the more impressive is that most of the game was made by only one developer, Dean Dodrill, who did all the art, animation and coding over the course of 4 years. The amount of effort and dedication put into this game really shines; it deserves to be experienced by all gamers.

If you rush through the main story line you can finish it roughly 9 hours. If you be a completionist (exploration and side quests) it takes about 14 hours
This game scored an 83 on metacritic (XBOX version, 81 for the PC port which is the same thing). In comparison to some other games you've played: Bastion (86), Thomas Was Alone (77), FTL (84), Shadowrun Returns (75).
Easily one of the best games I've played in a long time. If you're interested in these type of games check out the trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MVaAZcxb54
