Facebook Acquires Oculus Rift - Reactions?

So I've been super excited about the Oculus Rift. Ever since I heard about the Kickstarter, I have been anticipating all the new changes that could come about with the advances in Virtual Reality.

I was equally excited when I heard that other companies, like Sony, have been working on developing viable VR as well, and even demoed their headsets at GDC this year.

And then I got even more excited at the prospect of Minecraft teaming up with Oculus. Okay, I'm a little silly in thinking that it would be fun to play Minecraft in a VR environment. Whatever. It'd be amazing.

And then Facebook announced the plans to acquire Oculus

Oh and Mojang (creators of Minecraft) said the deal with Oculus is now a bust because of it.

And now I'm sad.

I'm not sure how to really feel about the acquisition in general, but Mojang's statement kind of rang true for me: "Facebook is not a company of grass-roots tech enthusiasts. Facebook is not a game tech company. Facebook has a history of caring about building user numbers, and nothing but building user numbers."

From a game development standpoint, this is true, and a huge problem with teaming up with Facebook. On the other hand, as others have pointed out, Facebook can do a lot for making VR headsets reach a critical mass of sorts. Become so accepted that they become a fact of life, a given. That would mean a lot for a VR platform. Not sure what it means for VR games.

So lots of mixed feelings. Anyone else?
