National Novel Writing Month
For those who may not be aware, National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo or just NaNo for short) is a yearly sprint to write 50,000 words of a novel during the 30 days of November. It’s a personal challenge designed to kick writerly butts into gear to work on projects writers always mean to work on but always find some excuse or another to put it off. It is a non-profit organization whose sole focus is encouraging more people to write!
Note: Despite the word “National” in the name, NaNo is open to everyone, everywhere in the world!
So NaNo came up during some awesome conversations on the forums, and there’s a small group of us who’ve become “writing buddies” on the NaNo website, so we can keep track of how we’re doing when November comes around. If you’re on the NaNo website and want some DayKnight buddies, check out the thread where we’ve been passing around profiles!
While NaNo has the ability to join various “regions,” these are geographic, so we’re building our own little DayKnight “region” here on the forums!
For many people, hitting 50k words by November 30th requires a great deal of planning (or at least a little bit of planning), so Nomikkh presented the awesome idea of using this second half of October to organize our own meet-ups via Google Hangouts to share ideas and get a jump start ahead of the November 1 start date.
We can use this thread to plan these out. There really should be several so that as many people as possible can participate! My humble suggestion for one is below. Others, please suggest some times and I’ll add them! We can continue as many of these as we want once November starts, too!
Also, this would be a great place to post questions/thoughts for us to think about, that way those who can’t join the live sessions can also be involved!
If we decide we want it, I can make a new post once November starts so we can separate planning talk from “Sprint to 50k!” talk. :D
