Elysian Shadows is an indie 2D RPG being developed for Windows, OS X, Linux, Android, iOS, Ouya and Sega Dreamcast. Th team fuses aspects of 16-bit classical RPGs such as Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, and Final Fantasy, with a highly stylized, modern vision by using dynamic lighting, physics, and audio engines along with swapping between 2D and 3D perspectives. Their goal is to create a "next-gen" 2D RPG in terms of gameplay, graphics, and audio while still remaining true to the games that inspired them in their youth to become developers.
In addition to featuring RPG-style gameplay elements, Elysian Shadows also incorporates platforming and action/adventure mechanics into the game, allowing players to jump, dash, and interact with their environments in full 3D. Many of these mechanics were inspired by the Legend of Zelda and Megaman X franchises, as we seek to create a fast-paced, fluid battle engine.
Please have a look at the official ES site for more game information and content. The Elysian Shadows Wikipedia article also has a considerable amount of information about on the game, its influences, its history, the team, and its press coverage.
The ES team is actively developing new gameplay aspects, while working towards launching a Kickstarter campaign August 1st, 2014. Please take the time to check out their popular YouTube "reality game development" web series called "Adventures in Game Development," where the group posts semi-weekly video updates giving a behind-the-scene look at the life of an indie game development team as they produce Elysian Shadows, complete with all-nighters, code, music, art, math, substance abuse, engine crashes, and their infamous dysfunctional antics.
Elysian Shadows will be released on the Sega Dreamcast physically published by Watermelon Corp, the development team behind the Pier Solar RPG for Sega Genesis and the Pier Solar HD remake slated for release on the Sega Dreamcast.
