Are SC2 pros "atheletes" and it is important

Day9 recently tweeted a link to a Forbes interview where a Blizzard guy said that SC2 pros are "atheletes"
http://www.forbes.com/sites/johngaudiosi/2012/12/31/blizzard-game-director-dustin-browder-explains-why-starcraft-ii-pro-gamers-are-athletes/ Due to their mental and physical conditioning.

It seems to me that up and coming sports or *sports are always trying to convince people that people who do it are atheletes. They compare an SC2 pro to a football or track&field participant.

Is this a useful analogy?

I think its counter productive. While you can get a workout playing SC2, you are not stretching your body the way someone running a mile or playing basketball. He said "they work as hard as any regular athlete, and try as hard."

Sure, they try hard, and I'll buy that the mental stress is as high. But work as hard? Really? That just doesn't hold up.
