Let's start at the beginning:
When I was in grade 9 I used to play Starcraft and Broodwar at LAN parties my dad helped me put together. My friends and I would talk about different strategies (rush to muta on 1 base, or building a ridiculous amount of cannons at every base) and the mysterious 'foreigners' that could play really fast by using the keyboard! :) We stayed up all hours playing intense 2 hour games, or would try and gang up against one or two A.I. opponents, we played really poorly looking back on it, but had lots of fun.
I unfortunately didn't play Starcraft for a while as I was going through high school and studying a lot, but then when I was in college Wings of Liberty came out and a friend of mine convinced me to get the game and play it with him (it didn't take much convincing). I learned about the Koreans and commentated games. I started watching more and more games of broodwar, as well as Wings of Liberty, and I eventually learned about Day who quickly became my hero. When I eventually watched his own story of how he got into Starcraft, going to tournaments with his brother, knocking him out and moving on.. I came close to tears as he told his heartfelt story.. I haven't looked back since.
I'm still in school now, and I've made it to Diamond league and I'm hoping to get into masters soon, I don't always have time to play as much as I'd like, but I always make sure to follow the tournaments and my favorite players <3 Huk, Scarlett. I've started down a road that might take up a lot of my life, as there is such a wonderful community around Starcraft that it's often staggering: from InControl casting charity bronze events and raising thousands of dollars to help sick children, to Day9's Funday Monday antics. Now I'm currently getting set up to start commentating games for community tournaments on z33k, and possibly organizing some barcraft events in my hometown so I can start giving something back to this amazing community.
I'd love to take another step forward and help with the HoTS Beta, I know I'll be getting HoTS for myself in March, but I won't be able to afford a pre-order until after the Holidays, and would love to receive a key, thanks for reading my story.
