So I have created what I think will be the end of my project. I’m still not sure if I’m going to use this on the wall in my business or if I’m going to play around with the concept a bit longer but I definitely think I succeeded in making all the assets that I need for the project, if not the final result yet. Going to call this a win!

I’ve been sort of taking this week off. Letting some paint dry and cure. I’ve got some resin in the mail but haven’t figured out exactly which I want to prepare and which I want to leave as is. It’s looking more and more like I’m going to be making prints of existing resin pours. So I’m not sure the resin is completely necessary.

Update, did a couple new pours and some new photo manips. Trying a full taijitu design to see how I like it. The purple one is a meeeeeesssssss. But I really like the other one which reminds me of jasper. It’s also very metallic.

I just noticed the images weren’t embedding properly. Oops! Moved them to imgur. Taking a bit of a break. I need to let some of my current pours dry so I can have more room in my work place. Also need to get more black paint and flow base.

This is end of the second week. I have almost all the supplies I need except I really could use some more and better quality black paint. Been using it the most. I’ve almost got down mixing but my black right now is too thin and that effects the paint quality and amount of bubbles thus small cells. Still doing a lot of experimenting so I might need to get more ‘canvas’ and definitely need more primer paint.

Here’s three new pours this week: https://photos.app.goo.gl/sjV9xTnjkxa4mjKy7

The first one looks better in person because that’s all silver and gold paint with a little black and white. The second one looks like abalone which I like for reasons I can’t really explain. The third is one of my least favorite pours. It set up even uglier than the photo because the lines bled a lot. Sad. But, the pic has been useful for editing experiments. I can still always print then seal.

Augh I’m so mad at myself! I dropped a painting. Happens to everyone sometimes. Worse, I dropped a painting on top of another one. Fortunately the painting which broke the fall was already dry so I was able to get the paint on it without wrecking it. Unfortunately the cool brown and teal one is busted.

Word to the wise: using records like this as a canvas means the paintings take three times as long to dry.

While I’m posting, I also had one painting have bleed through from the record label. So I’ve discovered it is indeed a good idea to prime them first. I’ll need to buy another can or two of primer.

So basically I learned a lot today. lol.

Here’s where I stand with my pours so far. Getting a new idea…

Also, for fun, I experimented more with photomanipulating pours in photoshop. Created this guy:

End of Week 1 So I did in fact do some more brainstorming. I’m considering an idea that’s…a bit different than what I was planning before. But I need to find someone who can laser cut wood. Because I can’t do it all myself. But here’s the plan: Possible Design Five equal cuttings each with a different design print. My own pours modpodged on then resin layered. …It’s an idea!

Week 1 Note Ugh, felt like I had some momentum and tried to keep going. Big mistake! Wasted so much paint. Gotta know to quit while I’m ahead.

Edit: I went ahead and finished a piece. I don’t like it much but I used it to brainstorm some color combinations. Gives you an idea of how color can really change the impact of the piece. The actual is at the top left.

Week 1 Update

Okay, so I did a LOT of prep work this week! I got some furniture for resting my projects while they dry, so I can keep my workspace clear. I got a whole lot of paint, and flow material to mix with, silicone, etc etc. The thing that I didn’t do…was a lot of brainstorming!

I sort of have an idea of what I want to do, yin yang style pours with various element colors from the wu xing Chinese element cycle, but it’s going to take some experimentation to do it right. My ‘canvas’ are going to be vinyl records, prepped with a model base coat spray and the hole taped on the back.

Speaking of, I did my first pour in the new space! Specifically, I did three different style pours on the same record. Experimenting with paint mixtures and my glue-based flow mixture. Here is my result so far! Three Pours

If you want an example of the yin yang style I’m thinking of, here’s a video. Fire And Ice / ying-yang flip and drag acrylic pour Thinking more and more that I don’t want to do this. Something else simpler I think.

Estimated Timeframe

Jan 22nd - Feb 21st

Week 1 Goal

1/22 to 1/29 This week is all about planning. Brainstorming some ideas with consideration to the decor of my clinic. I want to make some thumbnails, take some pictures of the clinic and see how the thumbnails look there. I might also get a couple more card tables and painting plastic for my craft room this week.

Week 2 Goal

1/29 to 2/5. This week is all about getting supplies. I really need to consider my material quality and make sure everything is at hand when I’m ready to start. This will also include mixing the flow medium into my paints and setting them up in their own bottles. If there’s time I may do a couple experimental paintings to test my medium ratios, but if not, that’ll go to next week.

Week 3 Goal

2/5 to 2/12 Experimentation continues in this week. I may have to change some of the pour techniques I want to use, re-address some thumbnails from week 1, and re-stock supplies from week 2. Prepping the final base (depending on what base I decide to use, canvas, vinyl or wood) with primer.

Week 4 Goal

2/12 to 2/19. Pouring the final project! This should be a fairly quick process but should definitely re-check and re-mix paints beforehand. Will need at least a week to dry, possibly three weeks to cure before sealing with media resin.
