Description
I am building my own house, so I want a 3D scale model in order to plan interior and exterior decoration. DK30 Fall 2018, I got so far as making a decent model for the ground floor. Currently I want to expand this model by inclusion of the second floor, as well as refine and use the whole model plan electricity outlets, lighting, tiling (choice), painting (choice), placements of furniture and creation of built-in cubboards/storage spaces.
Recent Updates
This was great fun! I made a final closure video to show the result of the build in slightly more detail.
I will continue fine-tuning after DK30 spring, but for now, the project is done.

I finished the main model about 90%. The remainder is not really in scope for the current DK30 challenge, but for sure gets a follow up this month.

Three weeks on and I have not been able to post an update, but there has been going on sooooo much.
Main model
- Week 1. I cleaned up the model by creating more top end components such that I do not need to hide individual bricks and things. Now it will become more easy for me to make a video about the design. Not everything is exactly correct. We even decided to move a wall by 20cm, but the overall is looking 75% finished.
- Week 2. Starting some of the outside details. Mostly the terrace is looking better and the upstairs is very far advanced (except for the windows and the brick walls. Temporarily I put a plaster template there)
- Week 3. I expect to make an update video soon!
Electrical plan
- Week 1. The electrical plan was made. We put a rough estimate for all outlets and light points. I even made some different lights to hang around the model.
- Week 2. We met with the electrical engineer and had a great chat about what made sense and what not. Some outlets were moved, etc etc.
- Week 3. We are awaiting the final design of the electrical engineer to minorly adapt and then approve.
Tiling plan 2. Week 2. I actually have a rough estimate for the tiling surfaces done, but we are still choosing what to pick, and most it is not as urgent as sanitary ware, so I will postpone this a bit.
Sanitary plan 2. Week 2. We heard we were only have a few weeks to get the exact placement detailed out, so we are going to the store in week 3. 3. Week 3. Actually as I am typing, we are going to the store tomorrow and see what we decide. We can always go in a few days since it is holiday anyway, so I am confident we get all the needed info.

Week 1 Goal
Main model
- Show to viewers the downstairs model as is (pictures/video?)
- Create upstairs model as sketch (too little time to do detailed build up)
Electrical plan
- Use both models to come up with placement for electricity outlets and light placement for upcoming electric plan with electrical engineer in week 2.
- Hang temporary lights in model
- Place temporary outlets in model
Week 2 Goal
Electrical plan
- Have meeting with electrical engineer to discuss electrical plan for outlet and lighting placement
- Refine downstairs+upstairs floor models where needed
- Think about adjustments in electrical plan
Tiling plan
- Calculate floor areas to determine amount of needed tiles (and how much per type) and laminate (and how much per type)
- Calculate wall areas to determine amount of needed tiles (and how much per type)
- Paint placeholder tiles in model
Sanitary ware plan
- Plan sanitary ware
- Plan water distribution throughout house
Week 3 Goal
Electrical plan
- Finalize electrical plan with electrical engineer. Update model where needed
Tiling plan
- Buy tiles, laminate and accessories. Plan delivery dates
- Update model as needed
Sanitary ware plan
- Buy sanitary ware and accessories. Plan delivery dates
- Update model as needed
Week 4 Goal
Main model
- Create details for upstairs model
- Create details of inside+outside views
