Description

Been having a blast wading into the speed running community this summer and have decided to try my hand at routing. One of the joys of the Baldur’s Gate series isn’t just the story but also the additional dungeons you can explore. I want to make a new category and speedrun for an all dungeons run of Baldur’s Gate.

Got very distracted by life and job searching so this project is being put on hold until after I move next week. Updating the goals and setting a new start date of October 23rd in hopes that all of the basic moving stuff is done, things are put away and I can guilt free play my video games.

Got started on mapping today. Pulled images for 3 of the 4 dungeons. Got distracted by one particularly pretty layout and did a hypothetical route for it instead of finding the 4th. Started layout of google doc, put down a working definition of the category, progress. Will find maps for 4th dungeon tomorrow and start routing out the other 3. Want to do some play testing this weekend, so have to get prepared…

Estimated Timeframe

Sep 10th - Oct 9th

Week 1 Goal

Week 1 will be focused on mapping all of the dungeons and creating a list of all the traps and damage potentials. Most of the maps are already available I just need to pull them and label traps with damage ranges.

Week 2 Goal

Week 2 is going to be about objective routing. I am considering the dungeon ‘done’ if I have beaten the boss or completed the major puzzles, journal entries need to be near to being if not completed. So figuring out pathing and effective strategies for bosses will be the main focus.

Week 3 Goal

Testing routes and making changes as necessary.

Week 4 Goal

Do some item optimization, overworld movement, and more practice runs to see how I did. Submit the idea/time to the speedrun community for review.
