Consistent after work schedule.

Description

Recently I have found that after work I just turn into a useless blob even though my stamina is at a level where I should be able to do more. Thus, my focus over the next 30 days will be to find and keep to a balanced after work schedule that moves me forward on a few areas while avoiding overwork.

Summary: This 30 day project didn’t really go that well for me. I started pretty good and definitely kept working at it at the start but after a week and a half I hit some work that pushed me to and beyond my physical limits that there was just nothing left at the end of the day. Then I left for Twitchcon and got sick. All in all not great but the biggest mistake was not engaging in daily updates. After I started I let that slip and even if it didn’t work out well, I should have kept that up so I could adjust or stay engaged with the intent. Will have to work on that and create either some sort of consistent environment to engage or some other adjustment to make sure I am doing my best to stay true to my intent. It could also be it was a good intention at the wrong time. But I tried and I am still better for doing so. Definitely need to get things settled before starting another one.

I will attempt to hold to the following schedule:

4:00 Home/Rest 4:30 Misc tasks/to do. If none, cleanup/organize my old files and paperwork 5:00 Dinner 5:30 Japanese / Machine learning / Meditation 6:00 Game Dev / Hacker Rank 7:00 Extra time / Fun. 8:00 Get ready for bed. (open window to cool down room) 8:30 Listen to music, art, reading (with timer) or reflection time. 9:00 Bed.

On the weekends I will leave Saturday for fun and relaxing as I always seem to crash on that day. Sunday will be my more productive day. With that said, I need to do the following:

Saturday:

  • A minimum of 3 mini (5 minute) fitness breaks of stretching and exercises.(HoF style)
  • One hour of reading or non-computer activity. Fiction or machine learning as I choose.

Sunday:

  • 15 minutes of biking.
  • Keep to productive tasks and focus on major projects. (Secret project, Website work, Game Dev Learning/Hacker Rank)
  • A minimum of 3 mini (5 minute) fitness breaks of stretching and exercises.(HoF style)
  • One hour of fun somewhere in the day.

Additionally I will note any issues in daily check in and perform weekly assessment after work on Monday.

P.S. Meditate in the morning if I can make it work.

Sep 10th - Oct 10th

Week 1 Goal

Follow and note any issues with my initial work week schedule. Do my best to make it function.

Week 2 Goal

At the start of the week assess the schedule and make adjustments based on energy patterns and noted problem areas. Try to find behaviours I can compensate instead of just changing schedule times if possible. Post separate update if I update schedule and notes on assessments. Just make sure I am consistent still. Don’t go focusing options yet.

Week 3 Goal

Unless something changes, continue cycle from week 2. Try focusing efforts on fewer options in some areas but don’t get too rigid about it.

Week 4 Goal

Unless something changes, continue cycle from week 2. Continue or try focusing efforts on fewer options in some areas but don’t get too rigid about it.
