Create Animation of my House Construction over the last year
lroumen Other DK30 Winter 2020 2 3
Description
In previous DK30s I have constructed a 3D model of the house and made a garden design. At this moment, we have almost finished building our house, and now it is time to sort out the pictures I have taken on a regular basis of the progress of the construction. I have made pictures from several locations throughout the land plot and took a picture almost every week, so I hope I can concatenate that into animations. I did not have a tripod or webcam, but I will try to make due. The garden will be constructed starting week 1 of DK30, but by subcontractors, so I could add pictures of that if possible.
Recent Updates
I updated the garden picture based on how we arranged it with the gardener. I applied all the knowledge I gained in the last DK30 where I learned how to draw an architectural design, make plausible trees, color hardscape and softscape, and write clearly. I think it turned out quite well.
Changes with the design. Instead of a wavy path to the front door we now have a straight path from concrete-like 100x100 cm tiles that look both modern and robust. This is more practical and looks less cluttered than the original inspiration.
Instead of an irregular rock garden hidden in a corner we will likely put it in the front garden with evergreen plants and tall grasses. Some rocks most likely. A bit undecided and not shown in the picture just yet.
We cut the garden a little bit in two by extending the terrace. One side will be cornered on pretty much all sides with the hedge such that the kids can play in it with a climbing tree, the other is now a grassy area with borders. Seems better to have a close eye on them while they are young. Rabbit location to be determined… turns out our daughter does not want a rabbit anymore… kids :p
We also put the trash bins on the other side of the hedge next to the air-sourced heat pump that supplies the house with warmth. This should block the kids from accessing it. The heat pump has a fan which needs some cleared path so we placed pebbles there in order to also have some drainage.
Still we keep ideas on where to put vegetables and herbs, mostly close to the terrace. The rest of the garden is “grass” destination for now.
I do love all the trees we planted so far, but we still need winter green and summer/fall flowers. I still want my rock waterfall somewhere!!!
Contemplating the tip on the pear tree I got…
I will mark the project as completed since the garden drawing is not part of the original goal. I will still create that tonight
Here is my doing my best to get it aligned… I will think twice next time, hahaha. 31 and 33 images were stacked. I had to stretch, rotate, scale, rescale, touch up colours, but not everything was really that evident from my updates. I had a lot of aggravation along the way with the last time lapse, so I am grateful I could finish it.
I was making quite some progress, but the back side of the house turned out to be more troublesome than anticipated. The alignment position was not regular enough so I had a tough time getting it done. The pictures for the front side of the house were always made at a storm drain, but the backside did not have a clearly visible spot. In any case, I am still happy with the result. The house progress looks AWESOME in both time lapses!!
I should also draw the new design for the garden I just realise. The original sketch has changed quite a bit too make it more modern like the house. I could do that also this week so the update may make more sense
I have made some new pictures of the changes this week We now have a fence and some trees. The other view points I have sorted. Now to make my next stacking and gif!
Hell yeah! I got my first view point fully aligned with 32 pictures spanning a time frame of almost a year, and the result is really awesome! I cannot wait to start with the other viewpoints ^-^.
I got some serious stuff done. I have done the front view of the house now O
half of the images aligned reasonably well and that makes me happy. The pictures are from ground work to brick wall structure all the way to the top of the house. The next parts to align are the thatched roof, Windows and decorative wooden planks.
It is one big file but fine to continue with. Maybe tomorrow I can make the gif and start sharing.
We also sketched some improvements to the garden plan. We only make the brick work, trees and fences, so I can add a garden design change picture / drawing too.
Setting up and unpacking took a good portion of my time. I unpacked 40 big boxes and made those into 8 boxes of recycled paper.
I will revisit my plan and reduce my goals to a construction time lapse of 1-2 view points and sorting some pics for the other view points. I even still did not get any recent pictures after the move. This I will do tomorrow so I can add the end result to the time lapse. I do miss a few days in which I should have made pictures when they were making the garden brick work and final touches on the outside of the house, but I guess that is okay to skip in the lapses (no way to break out those parts and rebuild for just a picture, lol.
I hit an issue in the Dk30. Due to the move I temporarily do not have any Internet connection at home making it difficult to post progress from my pc… But at least the move went well. Week 2 was a success!
For week 1 I made a nice overview of the pictures that were made over the last year. In total i have five viewpoints that can be used for picture overlay and time lapse. We packed for five days and are ready to move into the new house tomorrow. I am behind on week 1 but ahead on week 2. Seems good enough to me.
