Reading... but what?

RichDecker (Raho) Other DK30 Quarantine 2020 4 5

Description

I’ve got some books on my bookshelves. Mostly scholarly works. I’d like to read all of them.

Recent Updates

It’s been some time.

“So what is new, Richard?” You may ask. Well, not a lot actually, I’ve been mainly reading notes for exams and re-reading books I have already finished reading.

But I have planned out my thesis for next year and there is a lot to be read, so hooray x3 as I dive into the literature about [redacted].

Day 10?/9?

I forgot to make the updates more regularly, but I’ve read both the Beránek and unreleased collection of poems. The first scholarly book is called Visible descriptions / On their visual and intermedial qualities and suggestive power - Alice Jedličková, Stanislava Fedrová. That one is based on the publications of Werner Wolf and research of the respective authors (already started on that one). I will also be reading Dubliners - James Joyce along with it. The second scholarly book on the list is Mokře chodí v suše / Vodník v české literatuře - Pavel Šidák This book is mostly a deliberation on a Czech folkloric creature called “Vodník”. As far as I know there is no real actual translation to English. But it is a folkloric creature, which lives in water and more will be explained after I read the book.

Day 1

The next on the list is quite short - a few poems from a local poet. I should be able to get through them in under a day. Another one on the list is Beránek - Karel Uriánek and I’d like to finish both before monday. Scholarly works are on the way, but I’d like to get through some poetry before that.

A small day -2 update

I’ve been putting off A Clockwork Orange for quite some time, but no more. It has been read today and oh what glory. To anybody, who has seen the film (I myself have not and delayed it until I read the book) I would wholeheartedly have a good viddying at it. Especially the UK version (somehow the US version had the last chapter cut out in first release, not sure if the later editions have it back in). And I implore any potential readers to really have a read, endure the language (you’ll start to like it after a few pages anyways) and finish all of that.

I don’t like the idea of putting a number on how much you enjoy or value something, so for me it simply is a thumbs up.

Estimated Timeframe

Apr 24th - May 24th

Week 1 Goal

Try out how much I can absorb per day. Scholarly writing isn’t as consumable and I need to know if a book per day is actually feasible or foolish.

Week 2 Goal

Based on the results of week 1, try to get at least through the books I have physically here on my shelves.

Week 3 Goal

Start chewing through all the assigned works by my university professors (The national library is giving Czech uni students access to digitalized library for free, currently).

Week 4 Goal

Continue on. I have no illusions, that I could read them all… But reading even through the more important part would be a success.
