So at the end of the project I did not finish all my goals, but I am well on the way to completing the game! the game itself is more or less complete, the rest is polish and backend stuff my co-programmer is dealing with.

Well the last week has been a whirlwind of activity. I got to talking with a friend who’s been struggling with overwork and no creative outlet. We’ve been talking about doing something gamedev together for years now, and I asked him for help with the final stretch of my game, particularly the Steam integration.

We looked at the steam API stuff, and he offered to bankroll my game since he knew I was a bit strapped for cash, one thing lead to another and apparently I am no co-owner of a texas based LLC that “Produces and Sells Entertainment Media”

We’re obviously still in the early start period, but we do have a name ‘Quantifiable Games’ and we’ll eventually be releasing Proprioception under that banner.

Taking this step has really helped with my motivation, and today I went through a substantial list of todos and fixes and pushed changes to regression using github and a hastily cobbled together bug tracker in sheets on our very own gsuite.

Today has been a lot better. I “sold” my “company” to my girlfriend and now work for her, as I am much less inclined to disappoint her than myself, I actually got a lot of work done today. I don’t know if this is a particularly helpful or healthy solution, but it seems to have worked. Actually looking forward to working on the game tomorrow.

I’ve made some progress since last time, but motivation has been pretty bad. I foolishly tried to post a work in progress video to a twitter thread, spent an hour getting the video captured correctly and saved in a format suitable for twitter and was the only post in the thread not to get any likes or comments… ugh…

Well, If i was to take anything away from that I now know how to make and export videos suitable for twitter without them taking an hour to do.

But it also lays bare my biggest fears about this, and in general is that I’m not good enough, and wasting my time trying to make games, or anything really. Yeah the impostor syndrome is strong in this one.

Anyways, trying to power through nonetheless, tho I may have to consider the last week lost to the ether, and tack on another week at the end of the project.

I’ve had a problem for a couple of months now. One of the gamemodes in my game involves determining which positions on a grid would be ineligible. I wrote a bunch of code to determine which positions would have to be ruled out based on the position of existing pieces on the game board and thought I had everything sorted. but for some reason I still got pieces in the wrong position.

As I looked through my code this morning I discovered why. I called the code, sure, but I never did anything with it. I was supposed to use the code to remove possible positions, but never did. This has been bugging me for a couple of months at least XD

So far this year has sucked pretty hard, but it’s been getting at least a little bit better and I feel motivated to get back on the gamedev Horse. Especially now that Day[9] actually highlighted my project on stream. Can’t disappoint Sean (even if he’ll probably never see this)
