Spring Garden Makeover

Description

Inside, work on potting up the seedlings that I have until I am able to plant them outside (around the end of May). Research planting information and see what materials I need. Outside, work on clearing sod to make room for seedlings. Clean out overgrown garden beds. Do my best to take good progress pictures and upload them here / Instagram / Facebook (for my family to see). :)

I guess this is going to be a Week 2/3/4 Update. (: Had some weather difficulties and did not make as much progress as planned. Plants have been hardening off so that I can plant them when the weather is a bit more agreeable.

Had my sister dig up some of the garden space to plant my flowers. Ordered mulch to pick up this Friday so I can plant in my raised beds this coming weekend (my day off of work). I ordered some drip irrigation tubing as well but who knows when that will be delivered!

Other than that it has been a lot of me just bring my plants in… and out… and in again. :)

Update, end of Week 1. Didn’t make it as far as I wanted but that is no surprise! Potted up some plants inside but have ran out of room / containers to hold the pots. Rained most of the week so I wasn’t able to get outside and all my potting soil got soaked :c Bought Round Up to kill the grass in the beds since removing by hand was not a good option. Transplanted the Iris’ that I wanted to save but they are not looking so good in their new spot :( Spent the entire weekend with an unplanned sink / faucet replacement.

Estimated Timeframe

Apr 25th - May 23rd

Week 1 Goal

Inside: Separate and pot up seedlings that are outgrowing initial trays. Possibly start more vegetable seeds. Outside: Transplant Iris plants that are in the front garden to main garden. Research easiest way to remove grass in the garden & implement in overgrown beds. Add compost to the existing beds to level out. Rake out leaves from garden bed stuck under big ugly green plant.

Week 2 Goal

Inside: Remember to water the plants inside… continue to pot up as needed. Outside: Work on garden under my window to remove wooden peg border. Remove sod out to the end of the house to start building the area for my cut flower garden. Go to garden center to buy what I need if safely able to do so. (Mulch, dirt, blah blah blah.)

Week 3 Goal

Inside: Start hardening off plants. (Outside after May 19th?) Map out how I want to plant my seedlings (depending on what survived) Outside: Plant any garden center plants. Weeding weeding weeding. Amend beds with more compost (did I say that already?)

Week 4 Goal

Outside: (2nd to last week in May, est. last hard frost for my area is the 19th.) Indoor seedlings should be mostly hardened off, plant in bed under my window. Buy more plants if I haven’t already. :) Pull soaker hose and run drip irrigation tubing and place emitters where required.
