Train my Brain - Sudoku each day
lroumen Health, Fitness, Food DK30 Quarantine 2020 3 1
Description
I recently discovered that I need some Zen time for myself due to having the kids around all day and needing to work from home. I will set the bar quite low and I will keep my mind happy by doing a sudoku each day.
These things will be tough a shit because I will do the Sudoku as presented/shared by the awesome Youtube channel: cracking the cryptic. Maybe I will stream myself doing these sudoku as well.
So yea, the streaming did not happen because how do I do that with pen and paper? I am not smart enough to do each randomly picked sudoku in one sitting, let alone film it properly with my pencil scratches and eraser work. :)
Recent Updates
Day 23: Definitely not a toughy, but I lost a bit of patience. The magic square was easy and with luck I got the mirror image of it correct in my sketch. A bit of seeking throughout on which step to continue with, but overall I am happy with it.
I am marking my project as complete, but I will add a few sudoku solves that will be finished after the 4 week period. Since in essence I am not doing these exactly per day.

Day 22: This idea of a sudoku is brilliant. I got through it without any problems too. Such a satisfaction on the solve! Will do these again!!!

Day 21: A quiet evening of chess. I did this immediately after the last one. Nothing like some sound logic to fix a bad feeling.

Day 20: A restart and a few corrections. This one was not fun to be honest. I got the 9’s though, and I got a good start in the beginning, but still frustration with same sum for even and odd and then figuring out which of 1-3-5-7-9 I needed to leave out to match with 2-4-6-8 combinations…

Day 19: Galaxies… Just… what a puzzle. I got the galaxies in place, but then the actual sudoku solve was tough as hell. The irregular galaxy boxes got the better of me due to my notation with pen and paper. Two or three calculation mistakes further I had to correct a bit. Soo much work to do this one right. My brain is severely stormed.

Day 18: Tic-Tac-Toe even vs odd. The concept was refreshing and the solve was gratifying. Still took me a bit of frustration and two dead-locks until I could pass. So much for catching up on me being behind. Hahaha

Day 17: It was not too difficult to figure out which tetris pieces were the same, but the puzzle took forever to really finish. One of the toughest ones yet…

Day 16: These chess-versions are fun. I made a mistake having to restart but I am happy I got through it okay. I seem to become a bit wary of mistakes and having to start over after this. The earlier the mistake the later you figure it out…

Day 15: A simple one to pick up the pace. Mostly logic, nothing fancy. I am feeling good again!

Day 14: Utterly defeated. I got the 1-2-3 okay, and I understood intuitively that H should be 9, and I got the clue with the C in the row and column, but for the life of me I could not get all 1’s and 9’s on the board with my pen and paper notation. I had to resolve to watch the video and when he pointed to a row, pause, think of the implication, then continue the video to know if my assessment was correct. At least the logic I got, just not which row or column to look at. Granted, they spent 2 hours on the Sudoku and they are the masters of Sudoku solving themselves so I do not feel hurt by any means, but I was hoping I could solve the whole thing myself. In all I needed 3-4 clues to get the 1’s and 9’s in, then I could solve on my own. Much - too - difficult. I spent 3 days on it and I am behind on goals of finishing 1 each day, but at least I keep doing sudoku and brain training each day. I will update my expectations rather than up the pace (unless I can actually catch up with a few easy ones, just as how I started with a few I solved quite quickly). This one was a tough lesson.

Day 13: Another Starwars Themed Sudoku. A Jedi type because you cannot place the same number a knights jump away. Quite an effort but mostly a lot of logic to solve it. GG, LOL

Day 12: MAY THE FOURTH BE WITH YOU!! Starwars Themed Sudoku.
Actually, I saw this on the fifth because I saw it really late on the fourth and could not put it in my schedule. I did not get around to it today on the sixth either. I should step up or I get behind in schedule.
No solution yet, will update when done. I like how it looks like a tie fighter :D
I got it done quite quickly but it took some days to update due to less access to my pc to do things. Work, work, work to keep me busy.

Day 11: Back to my old self. I breezed through this one. There is no real gimmick, just logic. After these first 11 days (well, 11 puzzles, I think I am 1-2 days ahead of schedule) I really feel like the Sudoku challenge is keeping my mind more sharp in the thinking mode. Doing work from home is exhausting, but after a bit of Sudoku during useless meetings I can get my focus back quite nicely. (Useless meetings == group meetings when other people talk about how they suffer from the situation, team meetings where people argue about nothing, the listen only kind of meetings). In important meetings I am more sharp in what people are doing, what the risks and concerns could be and potential solutions. I feel rightfully more positive.

Day 10: Man… it was coming. I knew I would drop the ball soon after so many successes in a row. This was aggravating. I got the 1s and 9s so fast, but then subsequently made mistakes with logic all the way in the beginning and felt the hurt almost at the end. I restarted making the same mistake. Then went for a hint (and luckily he solved it in the same way), hit myself in the face, corrected that poor start, then sailed through. Maybe the worst one up until now.

Day 8: A tough bow and arrow Sudoku. Once you get the bowstring figured out, the rest falls into place quite quickly. It kept me busy on one mistake, but overall the idea to solve was easy enough to find. Just need to keep concentrated on filling in the rest of the gaps.

Day 6: STARCRAFT SUDOKU !!! !!! ! !! ^^ o.O :D WOW Took me not too much time to solve, but took me a bit of time to make an update. This was great fun. I was checking mostly where I could place zerg, protoss and terran numbers in order to solve it. At several steps in solving the puzzle do the unique properties of each race really make an impact. If you do not use the rules then you will not be able to solve it. This thing was really well done.
Btw, turns out Simon was actually a Master top 5 terran at some point in the past. Youtube link CtC: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4tpMbROJJY

Day 5: (Maybe I am a bit ahead of timing but I am having a lot of fun with these Sudokus. This one is a monster. I have been stuck ALL day. Will update when I have the solution in hand. Wow, who made this puzzle so difficult. This was amazingly frustrating. Let’s forget about it quickly. I got the generic pattern but it was more about what cannot fit than what can fit, and that is not what I expected. Reverse-engineering is tough! Also, seems not like a complete sudoku looking at 3/5 interchangeability (bottom left+right) except when you add the tower restriction. Also something I did not expect to be legitamate at first; hence getting stuck for a large portion of time.
