Cleaning and Organizing Apartment

Kirbyoh Other DK30 Quarantine 2020 0 0

Description

I moved into this apartment last June and we had to move a bunch of things quickly. There are still boxes I have not opened up and the things are not in a sensible order. I have made progress on getting the clothes sorted and have been good about laundry and keeping dust and dirt out (with the help of my robot vacuum, Brock) but the clutter starts to creep up and sometimes I don’t know where to find things.

I am done, just keeping the clutter down! But it took several more months.

Well after all the coronavirus craziness at work and with all my side projects going on, All I managed to do was little pieces of other rooms plus THE KITCHEN, which was the most important part. Everything is in a specific place and different tools have their own spots in the drawers instead of being jumbled all around. And I added baskets to the cabinets for spice management! No basket needed on top, where all my extra bottles sit behind the few big bottles, which are east to manage without a special system. Down below I have a basket that contains my most frequently used spices and in the middle are the ones i use less often. But instead of having to reach in and lift random bottles looking for the right one while leaning down so I can see what I have, I can take the basket out of the cabinet and have an easy time looking through half of the bottles, and with a little practice and care, I can know where every spice is in the basket.

Pots and pans and bowls are now in nice places in that side IKEA cabinet, and I have removed and boxed up all the old ones that I can donate once coronavirus passes. Wish i could save space by removing them now, but no one will see the jammed up closets until it passes anyway, so why worry about that? And I have labeled the boxes so I can find and donate them right away when the time comes.

And now i have enough space on top of the IKEA cabinet to bring out the chess set, which was buried under a coupon pile (now on top of the fridge, way better), wall clocks, envelopes from work…

I’ve been nailing all my other projects not on this list, so i am ok with this going slow! Things just keep coming up.Going to keep working away this weekend! The goal is to be ready for the return from this whole coronavirus situation in a great state, and as long as I keep rocking my side projects and slowly chipping away at this jumble of an apartment, I’m doing great!

The kitchen! Spice organization The chessboard

I accidentally made the project in the wrong account!

Cleaned the car windows today. Looked for spice rack options, have a few ideas.

Estimated Timeframe

Apr 24th - May 24th

Week 1 Goal

Get kitchen in order. May need a spice rack? Make sure the various things are arranged and neat into their own regions so I am not hunting for things in multiple places. Also need to clean the inside of the car windows this week too.

Week 2 Goal

Living area needs fixing up. There is a bit of table clutter but I have a washer/dryer sized nook with shelves which just has various housewares piled up. Get that in order and the other closets may be possible to unload a bit, especially on blankets.

Week 3 Goal

Office clean up. This is one of the big closets which should be to put things I rarely need on the far side and what I sometimes need on the close side. That saves room in the bedroom closet for the things that are best placed there. Additionally, The rack of papers needs to be rearranged and old papers boxed up for shredding. Then the craft supplies get their own spot.

Week 4 Goal

Bedroom clean up. Get the non clothes out of the bottom drawer so three full drawers become four nice drawers. Unneeded books get boxed up so the shelves aren’t so packed. Just a little more space and it will be in great shape.
