Charity Writing DK30 Quarantine 2020 7 5

Description

I want to write 25 articles in a month. I will do 20 album reviews and 5 music history articles. I had my friends on Facebook recommend albums to me, so I have a wide variation of genres to review.

So far I’ve written 2 articles, I’m a little behind but I’m not worried about meeting my goal.

My first article took longer than expected because of how intricate the album was (Fever Ray’s self-entitled). I’ve learned that writing about music is only as complicated as the music itself.

The second article I wrote was about some pop-heavy wanna-be rock band called Roseburg. I tore it apart and talked about how awful their album “righteous punk” was. It somehow feels good to trash an album. My biggest worry with this was when the person who recommended to me would see it. I hit them up, I let them know I was very hard on it, but I still appreciated them for the recommendation because it’s giving me the practice that I need.

Some issues/struggles I’m having

  • Knowing every instrument that’s going on. Sometimes I’m not sure if there is an actual new keyboard instrument or if it’s just a synth tone.
  • Finding the right place to post my articles. I would love some suggestions.

Some good things going on

  • My friend who had journalism classes with me has been editing and reading my articles. So I’ve been getting great constructive feedback
  • I have gotten very into the first band I reviewed (Fever Ray)
  • I’m expanding my musical lexicon
  • This has been helping me keep a good routine
  • I haven’t been looking at social media so much, I’ve been in a better head space.
