Graphic Tee Designs - UN Apparel

ProfShaun Visual Art DK30 Fall 2020 0 0

Description

In 2010 I started my own streetwear label as a passion project. I’ve created several designs in the past that were very limited runs to mostly just friends and family. It has been a few years since I really sat down and designed for my brand and I really want to come up with one new design a week over the length of the project.

About the Brand
UN Apparel originally started as an “Unstoppable” in 2009. After some ideation and dissecting the word in various ways I settled on UN. There are two reasons for this.
The first is the the letters “UN” have the unique ability to turn negatives into positives. A reminder that when life has you down you can always UNdo the negatives.
The second reason for the two letters is a little bit more whimsical. Growing up with the name Shaun there are obviously a lot of ways of spelling it. The most common way people inquire on how you spell it is by spelling your name and stop where they need help. A barista will look at me and go “S-H-A…” to witch I reply “U-N”. UN is the thing that separates me from the other spellings. UN is the two letters I’ve said, written, and read more times than probably most others. UN is something I identify with and I hope you will too.

About Me
My name is Shaun. I’ve been a graphic designer for 10 years now, focusing on interactive design and branding. My resume includes brands like Nike, Chase, Mars, White Claw, Martin Guitars, among others. I’ve always loved creating simple graphics, and ever since I was a kid would mock up T-shirts with them.

How it started
In 2009, while still in college, I started work on a brand called “Unstoppable”. By the end of the year the the brand had evolved and changed a bit to be called “UN Apparel”. I had printed my first set of T-Shirts in 2010 and sold them out of a box in my room to friends and family members. Ever since then it had kind of taken a back seat to work and personal life. That’s were this challenge comes in.
