Finish Building and Painting my WH40k Army; Raven Guard 3rd Company

Itspsychicmuffin Craft and Cosplay DK30 Fall 2020 3 4

Description

While my last project saw me dive into the world of Warhammer 40k models, I still have a lot of work to do. For this project, I want to finish building my army as well as painting the remainder of my models (about 50 or so in total of varying sizes). If possible, I want to practice new techniques as well, either to increase my speed (rapid basecoating) or quality (better brush techniques).

Well, Week 1 has passed, and while some personal issues got in the way of me completing this week’s goal, I still got a fair bit done for which I’m glad. Finished my Hellblaster Squad, complete with plasma glowy bits and a Sergeant that, if I may, came out really great. I also completed an Intercessor Squad, which taught me the value of working in an assembly-line fashion, separating tasks by paint colour and doing the same thing on each of the ten models before moving on to the next step (Basecoat all models in black, then add leadbelcher metal on each, then red eyes/right pauldron trim, then silver aquilae/details). I decided to leave touchups until the very end, so as to preserve my sanity. Finally, I finished up my Centurion Eliminator Squad, which involved a lot more detail than the others (as well as larger parts, a bit more forgiving in nature), which should hopefully prepare me for the next models coming down the line: Vanguard Veterans.

Hellblasters on the scene

Intercessors ready to rooty tooty shooty some heretics

Did someone say “suppressing fire” ?

Very happy with how Sergeant Steelhand came out

Slowly starting to look like an army!

Estimated Timeframe

Oct 15th - Nov 12th

Week 1 Goal

My first week will be dedicated to finishing any in-progress boxes I have: a half-done squad of Hellblasters (Plasma bois) as well as a full squad of Vanguard Veterans (Jetpack dudes with lightning claws). I want to finish what I’ve started before moving on to new things, and will continue to use the same methods as I have before,

Week 2 Goal

Week 2 will be for focusing on efficiency. I have a few unopened boxes of 10-man infantry squads, and if I want to finish them without losing my mind I’m gonna need to be quick about it (without being sloppy, of course). This will be my first time using a spray to rapidly base coat my models, allowing me to get the brunt of the work done so I can add details later!

Week 3 Goal

Week 3 will be for my larger models: I currently have a Stormraven gunship as well as a Dreadnought, and building/painting them might take longer than normal infantry, so I’m dedicating more time to the matter.

Week 4 Goal

Finally, the last week will be about details. I have a few HQ’s, or “commanders” if you will, that serve important roles in my army’s composition. Therefore, I want to paint each and everyone by hand, and use my accumulated knowledge to bring out the best of these models. They deserve to stand apart.
