Learning to code in unity
ANommyMousse GameDev DK30 Fall 2020 1 1
Description
So time to learn to code properly. I will be using Jason Weimann’s course. It was a lot of money for me, but I feel having a comprehensive course is better than ad-hoc learning for programming, while the course starts with game programming it will eventually become to the why of coding which is seeing the wood for the trees at a more top level.

Welp ummm a picture is worth 1000 words! and I doodled a celebration Imp \o/
Yes, behold my almost godlike predictive POWAH!
100% complete in 2 weeks, D’oh! (week 4 goal unlocked!?!) (Course 1 of 3 though)
Yup week 2 and I’ve completed the first course, that was based on around 8 hours per day, so maybe 80+ hours or so depending upon the level of knowledge of c# etc… (There’s 3 courses but I feel it’s time to put some of what I’ve learned to real world use and do a little menu system in Unity, one thing about programming is putting it to use is paramount in cementing your learning, the course did make you implement the things but it’s in 2d and my game will be in 3d isometric and perhaps with a 2d interface (Not sure on this bit)
I expect I’ll dip into the course for some refreshing of c# and unity stuff quite a bit as I work on doing my menu. Overall it’s a very good course, I’d wait for the 3 for 1 though since otherwise it’s quite expensive. This course was fully 2d but since it’s introducing concepts like events, lists, abstract classes, virutal functions and making things like wall jumping, breakable bricks and fireballs that destroy stuff.
As someone who hated c++, this c# course is just plain awesome, I actually like c# programming and feel a lot less confused.

See I can even make my week 4 goal dad joke!
Project is completed, but I’ll be dipping back into the course while doing my next DK30.
So I’m 60% of the way in now, step 96 of 160! The course so far has been great, there’s so much compressed in a nice way. It’s covered in 2d (This doesn’t really matter and just keeps things simplier) Basics. Prefabs, materials, UI, unity events, some patterns, player controls, enemies, keys, locks, animation, falling platforms, collectables and bouncy mushrooms!
Also I’m now doing programmer art on Saturday(maybe) and Sunday, and yes I WILL unlease the abominations!) on updating in here.
I’m following 2 art tutorials, the froot tutorials (comfy vtuber), and new one from gamedev.tv.
My first work of modern art (Only cause it’s fresh today) https://imgur.com/lkWWLcT
Art abomination 1 complete(I could put more work into it, but I want to attempt an Imp next week using vector gfx)!
