Day 26 to day 30

I didn’t end up streaming sunday night but I did finish out my last week of streaming semi strong.

So what did we accomplish?

• I streamed 25 out of 30 days! (And we beat ME 2 in the process)
• I’m 21 followers away from becoming affiliate
• I’ve found some really awesome ME streamers that I watch regularly now
• I learned OBS (Still getting the hang of that green screen)
• I learned some twitch slang
• I learned how to use pretzel rocks

My overall thoughts are that I want to keep this going. Atleast until I beat ME 3. While I didn’t accomplish my goal of finishing the series in 30 days I’ve found that I really enjoy streaming my playthroughs! And I’m hoping I can keep doing this for fun in the future. I’m gonna try and do another 30 days and see where that takes me. I won’t be updated on here for the mean time.

My biggest drawback is the time that streaming takes away from socializing with friends and family. A 2 hour stream is essentially an hour of set up 2 hours of gameplay and then 30 minutes to an hour of take down. So my nights are just gone when I stream. And it definitely takes a toll when I’m already stressed about things.

Since I want to keep this going and I want to have meaningful time with friends and family I’m going to stick to streaming Mon, Teus, and Wed with Thurs and Sat/Sun being flex days where if I’m free or its a lighter week I’ll stream. I’ll keep the time at 6:30 PDT to make sure I give myself enough time to eat dinner and talk with the GF.

But hey. All and all it’s been real. Thank you for all of your support. I appreciate this community for giving me the opportunity to try something new.

I fixed the audio doubling problem!

My swedish ME friend came and hung out with me for a bit. TheMrFabulous and Strikeattack11 have also been regular hang out people and have been super nice to me :)

Really enjoying the community.

Tomorrow I am OFF. But will be back sunday for a possible evening stream.

Audio is doubled?!?!? GD. I had a really good stream otherwise. People I don’t know are hanging out which is a cool thing to experience.

Forgot to update the other day!

Past two streams have been good. I got the mini hdmi in the mail for my dlsr camera and I was hoping to add that as a video source. BUT I need another capture card. So I’m going to think about wether or not I want to invest in that. I’m hoping that the better camera will improve my chroma key for the green screen.

Gameplay has been good and people have been coming along to say hi and talk about games which I really like. I’ve also really been enjoying Jaspellior’s ME 2 stream. I strive to be like her!

Had the person I raided come by and watch my stream which was so fun and cool and honsetly I was a bit nervous.

I had the audio screwed up for half the stream though so the game audio wasn’t coming through unfortunately. But I fixed it when she stopped by.

Day 20

Lots of walking and talking on today’s stream. Got to hang with some friends which was really nice. Had a funny moment with a quest line too. Jeffery the Hanar will always be remembered.

Greenscreen is looking good. I wanna move my key light to the other side of my face and see what happens. Messed around with desktop audio instead of headphones so I can access my sound mixer. Seemed to work well!

Day 18 & 19

I did a CIV VI stream with a friend of mine on day 18. Not gonna share that here.

Green screen is looking the best I’ve ever had it! I think I need to make sure the LED is at the right angle, further away and casting even light on the green screen.

Friends came and chatted but ultimately I was pretty tired. Got a late start cause of work. Gonna take tomorrow off and stream again on Sunday! I don’t think I’ll beat ME 3 by the end of the 30 days but I will definetly keep streaming.

Day 17

Had the most friends come and say hi today! It’s so fun sharing this game with people.

I raided someone who raided me last night and got to know them a little bit better.

I’m also almost an affiliate! I may end up shooting for that since I like doing this so much.

Day 16

Went back to Arrival DLC to help fill the story gap between 2 and 3.

Really frustrating mission but I made it through. Another friend joined in on the fun today and I made it to 20 followers!

I raided a new person today and I really enjoyed her stream. I love connecting with new people over Mass Effect.

My new lighting set up is helping seperate me from the green screen.

Day 15

I had two people in chat talking and like 6 viewers at one time! That’s crazy!

Feeling really good about keeping the back and forth going while also focusing on the game and gameplay.

Day 14

Stream #12 VoD

Took yesterday off. And did an early morning stream before work.

I had another friend in the chat who was def the most active participant I’ve had. Asked lots of good questions and kept the conversation going for the entire stream. It was a bit hard to focus on the gameplay though.

Since I’m next to a window I need to change my filter settings on OBS given the different lighting environment.

I actually watched that same friend later on do some Super Mario 64 speed runs and I was so impressed by his stream! Didn’t even realize he was streaming.

Day 12

I beat Mass Effect 2!

And I started Mass Effect 3. My initial thoughts are troubling. But I’m having a good time.

Tomorrow is a day off and then I’ll be streaming Sunday Morning.

Day 11

Another friend joined the stream today which was excellent. Had some good conversations with him. I also raided another twitch streamer whose playing ME 2 on PC and had a really good chat with him as well.

I’m one session away from completing ME 2 which is about a week behind my goals but given that I’ve been playing slower I’m not too worried about the pace.

Day 10

I came back with renewed energy and I had a friend joint the chat for the first 30 mins which was super fun. I also got to talk about my gripes with the game crash from the previous stream. I also decided I’m going to skip the rest of the side missions and complete ME 2 so I can get to ME 3.

The game almost died on me.

Ran into a glitch at the end of one of the side missions that almost corrupted all my save files. But thankfully I was able to figure out a way around it and keep playing.

Day 8

As a change of pace I did some DOTA 2 with one of my friends whose Immortal ranked on his server.

I wasn’t able to isolate the game sound and his mic in OBS. So I’ll need to trouble shoot that if I decide to do something like this again.

It was hard to pay attention to the game while ALSO streaming so I only ended up doing one on stream and playing another off stream.

Took yesterday off! Continued today.

I raided another Mass Effect streamer and connected with them! I want to try raiding another person tomorrow. There stream was legit.

More thoughts next time.

Day 5

Stream #5 VoD

5 Days of straight streaming!

I’m going to take tomorrow off and start again on Sunday. I think it’s going to take me a bit longer than 7 days to complete Mass Effect 2 the way I want to. I like to take my time with these things and now that I’m explaining a lot during my play through it’s taking even longer. But I’m still having fun!

Obviously it’s always better when there are people to interact with BUT, I also really don’t mind just talking with myself. I’m still having a lot of fun with and I hope I can keep adding to the stream!

I may need to reassess my weekly goals. I still want to stream over a 30 day period and may even continue it if I don’t finish ME3 by April 1st. But I’m ok with that!

Notes for myself

• Still need to tweak the green screen a bit. But it’s looking a lot better.
• Getting sleepy. Try to start earlier if possible.
• Still want to mess around with a countdown.

Day 3

Stream #3 is complete!

• Touched on some story elements that I like in Mordin’s Mission and delved into Krogan backstory
• I had an audience today and I felt really good about interacting with them.
• Sound levels are feeling good!

Notes

• When I put the green screen filter on it makes that change universally. I think I need to add a whole new source with my webcam to prevent that from happening.
• Green screen is nice and works when I have the LED on. I think I need to turn the overhead light off beacuase its creating a spot on the green screen.
• Music got copyrighted so those parts of the stream are muted. RIP. Need to find that pretzel plug in that Day9 uses.
• I wanna try a countdown next.

• I was a lot more comfortable with talking this stream!
• Sound mixing was a lot better today. I could hear myself clearly. And wasn’t overpowered by game sound
• OBS is def the preferred application over Twitch Studio Beta

Notes for myself

• Distracted at the beginning of the stream. Be on as soon as the stream starts.
• Having a be right back title would be helpful for future streams.
• Keep messing with the sound mix. I think I can raise my mic a few dbs.
• It’d be cool to have some people watch but I’m happy just talking to myself still.
• Would love to dive into shot design and story construction in the next stream.

• audio is doubled up because I was listening back to the audio and my headphones were a source i was pulling in twitch studio
• Greenscreen needs to be hit with more light to pull a better key.
• More light on my face would also help.
• Annoying hiss throughout the entire thing (might just be my mic)
• Do better about talking next time.
• Boost audio on mic or talk louder.
