Find a new job

Week 2:

In general I’m behind on the goals I set, including some unrecorded goals that I’ve come up with along the way.

I’ve been spending a lot of time doing a Unity game programming course, which i’m thoroughly enjoying. On top of that I am networking and asking questions from people in the fields I am interested in.

Next week I want to include a new goal ontop of applying to jobs. “Find and interview professionals in the field”. I have already started doing this with a Unity game dev and want to keep doing the same for manufacturing and 3d printing.

I also have spent a lot of time thinking about the cross over skills between my interests, being 3D modeling and coding. I would really like to build up projects and portfolios. Including learning blender, designing more models on thingiverse, and coding (python, C# from unity, arduino).

General ramblings, I’m slightly discouraged from the initial job hunt but I’m sure it’s just something I have to push through and get into a confident groove.

Week 1:

This week has been a slow start, but I reached all of the goals that I set out originally. I’ve been given feedback that I should up the schedule and jump into applying sooner. I plan to implement this and start applying in the upcoming week.

I hit bullets 1 and 2 and there isn’t much to report there. A bonus of reviewing my monthly costs included reviewing some reoccuring charges that I forgot about and removed.

The 3 fields that I see myself in include the following:

• Manufacturing, focusing on automation
• 3D Printing / Working at a maker space
• Mobile game development

These are fields that I have had consistent interest and some previous explorations into. I have brainstormed entry level positions in these fields, as well as “mid game” positions I would like to transition to, and “late game” lofty goals as examples of where the career could take me.

Next I will update the week 2 goals, including aggressive schedule for applying to jobs. I may also include a category of jobs that are not quite entry level into the career I want, but are more immediately accessible while still maintaining opportunities to transition into the career entry level jobs.

Side note: I have restarted the Unity 2d Game development course, currently brushing off my coding skills again.
