Around ~1000 elo in rapid time control in Chess want to get to at least to 1200-1300 elo

Description

I’ve been inspired to play chess after watching the Queen’s Gambit last year. Decided to get back on my old chess.com profile and wanted to know where I was. I settled around high 700’s at Thanksgiving and then quickly got to 900 by the new year and I finally just broke the 1000 barrier at the end of February.

Recent Updates

I played just 2 games tonight. Played really well, and actually very solid, winning both games. I got early advantages, and slowly tried to accumulate the pressure. Gained about 20 points of elo in a rather short session for me typically, but better to get quality wins over quantity of games.

Estimated Timeframe

Mar 2nd - Mar 31st

Week 1 Goal

Play solidly, learn a few basic openings… Italian, Spanish, and use some tricks like a Traxler (punishes the well known Fried Liver Attack). Take free pieces or pawns when they happen, and don’t try to be too aggressive. Develop, Castle, and win. If everything goes right over the weekend, I should be over 1100 and if not at least not be below 1050.

Week 2 Goal

I should know my openings a bit better, and I should throw in something to surprise them like the Evans Gambit out of the Italian (playing as white) This gives up a pawn but allows you to develop more quickly and gain better center control. If anything comes up weird, (I just get burned out, or people decide to do different openings besides the ones I face) I’ll try to switch up my openings to more obscure ones. (Especially Vienna) At this point the bare minimum is 1150 but I’ll be surprised if not happy if I play at 1200 elo.

Week 3 Goal

This might be the week that really gets me as I try to do a hard push at my goal. Obviously, there will be things I miss… like I just play into tactics galore or I just simply just play stupid, and I get tilted. If I run into a roadblock earlier on, that is normal. It’s designed to put you up to people that play around your skill level. It’ll happen. This is just my friendly reminder to just stay calm, and you’ll go back up. If the opposite occurs, obviously I set my goals way too low… and that’ll just make me want to climb even further. If I hover around upper 1100’s everything is fine. If I’m upper 1200’s it’s push to see how far I can climb.

Week 4 Goal

Make it or break it. Got to play a lot if I’m behind, or just savor in where I’ve come from and only play a few games to limit the potential damage. No matter what comes out of this 30 days, even if I improve only 100 points, It’s higher than I was. I might just try to improve my Blitz to maybe 800-900 elo if I have time.
