Description
Some Houdini fog sheets/clouds, some basic ass learning to draw shit. Progressing through the art course I got from gamedev.tv, also sourcing from the Smithsonian as much relevant good stuff as I can find that’s cc0 or ccattrib ^_^

https://imgur.com/f0KHotS https://imgur.com/gVrrwtf So I’m calling it here as I’m getting frustrated and I’m getting demotivated because of that. The fence is cool, the mansion is just taking too damn long. The texture though is really cool given it’s actually just flat with nicely done normals. I’m going to start a new 2d project to test releasing a game on steam. Probably take less than 6 months from start to finish, it’ll loosely be based on solomons key which is an awesome arcade game (Computer versions sucked), I still regard it as one of the GOAT experiences I had in an arcade.
I reckon this one is going to run over. I have my gate fully textured and done. I have made the trim sheet for the main house and modeled a rough version, will likely change the stairs to be something else though.
Steps left to do. 0) Edit the stairs to look half decent or ascent :P
- Texture everything with the 2k by 2k trim sheet.
- Texture the trees with a wood material(They will be very dark so this should be easy).
- Make a ground for unity
- consider adding a few grave stones to the scene
Going to change the main goal of the project to just be the mansion/tower with textures. I have a good bit to learn in houdini (I want to learn more) and I want something that I can use at least in a scene to look good. So that’ll involve making an environment which will take a little time.
Welp Sunday was a bust, played loop hero all day, completed that at least \o/ My big cloud crashed while rendering, yup that’s right I crashed a cloud while trying to cook it. Took over a day and only 242/1446 frames in, so I’m going to call that and move on to billboard style fog (Volumetric is too expensive normally). Should be pretty quick.

Estimated Timeframe
Mar 10th - Apr 7th
Week 1 Goal
Mon-Sat. Clouds/fog houdini, continue in earnest the Art course I’m already on, consider doing another free art course as well. Try to apply good techniques. Sunday will be working on mastery course.(programming stuffs)
Week 2 Goal
Mon-Sat. Work on making a tower/castle/mansion thing. This week a tower (Non-game) It’ll have a boatload of polys intended for a render with my volumetric clouds. Spend 2+ hours each day doing the art course.
Week 3 Goal
Likely at this pojnt the art course will be up-to-date (It’s still be worked on) so… Mon-Sat : Work on Mansion, specifically the fiddly bits(oh er!) like windows and stuff.
Week 4 Goal
Find/make decent textures for the walls, roofs and windows that I can use (There some stuff in houdini) Render out the background and wondering if I can make something else cool quickly using the stuff I learned :D
