Korean Drama Screenplay and short-stories writing

ricebites Writing DK30 Spring 2021 0 0

Description

My normal job is in the finance/accounting field so I feel like I have very little outlet for creativity (gotta do things by the book to not get in trouble). When I was a kid, I really liked making up stories and presenting them in class. My 30 day challenge is to explore writing more (mainly scripts/screenplays). The focus would be on trying to draft creative/funny stories rather than perfect grammar, etc.

Week 4 update (March 22nd to March 28th):

Though my original plan was to spend this week proof-reading, I actually spent most of it writing on the short story about spicy food (I just wasn’t in the mood to write for the Korean Drama script).

I sat down four times this week to write. Super proud about that but I think next time I’ll try to better define my goals. For example, next time I want to measure it by a specific word count per week. Stephen King says that he writes 6K words a day but I’ll try for something more like 6K words a week.

Overall, I think the experience was super fun and I would totally do it again during the next 30 day challenge. One other thing that I noticed is that my reading increased along side my writing (been reading more books, etc.).

P.S. next time i definitely want to utilize the accountability buddy system. I think it would be nice finding a group where we can read each other writing and give feedback.

Week 3 update (March 15th to March 22nd):

My goal this week was to sit down 3-4 days after work to write a little bit. Truth be told, it was a struggle just sitting 3 days to write this week; my mind just didn’t feel like cooperating this week. The first day I wrote, I worked on episode 2 of the Korean Drama. I wrote one scene for it but very quickly become tired of it. I switched gears and started on a short story about spicy food. The other two days of writing was also for the spicy food short stories. I’m still planning on eventually finishing the Kdrama but its nice to be able to switch to writing another story whenever I feel like it.

Week 2 update (March 8th to March 14th):

I didn’t work on the Korean Drama this week because I wanted to get feedback from friends on episode 1 first before I added more. Instead, I wrote a tiny short horror/thriller script (I wanted a completely different genre than the Korean Drama). I was able to sit down 3 days after work to write. Pretty happy with the short script I wrote this week and looking forward to jumping back into the Korean Drama next week.

Week 1 update (March 1st to March 7th):

Posting this update a little late (on March 9th). I was able to proof-read episode 1 once and made some edits. Let’s just say I cringed quite a bit re-reading my old story haha. Nevertheless, it was fun jumping back into writing. After finishing re-reading episode 1, I started on episode 2 and added two scenes. I sent the google doc to some friends for feedback.

Progress is here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1abTRPRTrYDSMzZq0nz_tFtce0nVkNd8EGQ-Wd3nBqEg/edit?usp=sharing

Estimated Timeframe

Mar 1st - Mar 31st

Week 1 Goal

Week 1 goal is re-read an old script I wrote for a Korean-Drama. The writing level at best is fan-fiction but I’m hoping to slowly proof read/edit it to make it better. I am also hoping to reach out to friends to get feedback/etc.

Week 2 Goal

Week 2 will be an input goal rather than an output goal. Rather than trying to get X amount of pages out by the end of week 2, my goal is to sit down at the computer at least 3 days of the week after work to just write. My focus would be the second episode of the Korean Drama.

Week 3 Goal

Like Week 2, week 3’s goal will be input rather than output. I am hoping to sit down in front of the computer 3-4 days after work to just write. I want to work more on the Korean Drama but also explore possible short stories.

Week 4 Goal

Unless I really feel in the mood to write, Week 4 will mainly be a proof-reading/editing week. Goal is to take what I was able to write during weeks 1-3 and refine it as best as possible. I don’t expect the writing to be great but this is a step of having more creativity after my number focused finance/accounting job :)
