Description

The end is in sight, the next 4 weeks, should be making a trailer, releasing a demo to steam, getting a proper store front done and implemented and looking decent. Fixing bugs and adding in polish and bug killing and more killing of bugs and refactoring to make localization easier.

Week 19/20

No video this week.

Kickstarter launched, doing badly obviously, welp least I tried. I originally priced too high, but even when I’ve lowballed the price, it’s still got £6 of 10k and been almost a week, so I think that’s not gonna happen, which kinda sucks, but that’s the way of kickstarter.

Steam demo already live - This week updated to alpha 0.7, made the game a lot easier, replaced some of the harder levels with simple ones, still pretty jank was hoping it would help make sure people knew the game was going to get finished but looks like my time would be better spent, preparing for an Early access steam release sometime in October.

Fixed a bunch of problems with the player controller, highlighted a few less obvious things after watching someone play the game. I’m going to have to redo the player controller entirely at some point since rigidbody will not work properly, hitting corners bounces you off them, it’s a problem with unity itself that’s not actually fixable with hacks.

Seriously thought about just quitting this week, but might as well wait and put it up on steam next month with a lot of normal levels. My guess is this game will do very badly and have almost no sales, given the lack of interest on kickstarter, so I’ll probably iron out a few issues with steam release then attempt to put on other platforms such as GOG, greenmangaming, humble bundle, later on, but my mood is pretty low right now.

Also if anyone reads this avoid the new input system in unity for now, so many work arounds to do basic stuff.

I think I’ll just move on from the demos and make the rest of the levels, and replace the player controller, start making a lot of the screens final, finishing off tasks in my list till I get it done.

So Original deadline was 11th of September. I’m now at the point were all the weeks stuff is done. Trailer - done. Level editor - Actually this isn’t done yet, after kickstarter thing I guess. Demo - Done Put on steam - Demo is last thing waiting on approval for release \o/

This week will be playing a little cyberpunk, waiting on bank to see if I can get a business account, waiting on steam to allow release of demo. Removing all the demo specific stuff I changed. And hammering out a lot of levels, tweaking sound effects and testing a couple of bugs.

Week 1.5/4 and 17th overall. Did week 1s goal, new title page - commissioned art was very bad and nowhere near the quality required - had to roll my own - steamworks acheivements in and working, trailer 2nd go now good enough- https://youtu.be/LsV5MtlDkio. Tracked down the sound problems in menus, changed popup to just being always in-game, means I have to duplicate code though which is bad. Add in rest of cat animations and did variants to allow for looking down and walking. Steam shop front is almost ready, but I require Tax code from HMRC before I can make it final, requiring a business bank account. This week is all about the demo, while I wait for my tax code to get here. Should hopefully be done by next week.

Week 1 Goal

Bug fix : Scriptable objects for the tiles and sprites. Fix the editor to work again it’s currently busted due to new scriptable objects. Refactor week :)

Week 2 Goal

At this point I should have my new title page, so put into steamworks and redo the screenshots for the game. Prep the trailer so I can actually think about releasing the store page to steam.

Week 3 Goal

Fix the transistion to and from the options, the sound turns off for the menu items, needs tracking down. Fix the player to not be jank on certain conditions. Fix the level editor to actually be read on customs, add customs. Add a popup to allow the player to unlock from the pause menu the new characters and select one if they like, so a clone of the character select but in game.

Week 4 Goal

Make sure everything is ready in the shop front, including both the company logo and the game title. Ensure the trailer is decent with ALL the PUNS! Get my old laptop see if it still runs on it, see if it will run on less. Add in a early access demo release and ensure it works with the addressables altered! Put live steam and then panic!
