Learning how to type
FATALRAIN96 Education and Career DK30 Fall 2021 3 0
Description
My goal is to complete lessons on a website called EdClub to learn how to type. Hopefully by the end of the DK30, I can type complete sentences without looking at the keyboard and build up muscle memory.

(Forgot to mark project as complete)
Day 15: I think that I am going to call this project complete. I am not finished with all the courses and I will be continuing them, but they are all the same thing of just advance sentences and trying to improve your wpm. I didn’t think it would be this fast to learn to type; in 15 days I have went from having to look at the keyboard, and press keys one at a time and having around 10 wpm speed, to not having to look at the keyboard and be around 36 wpm. I will continue to practice, but I think this project has been a complete success. I definitely would have given up early on, but this project tracker has made me not want to give up. This has been an amazing ride to be able to learn something so fast.
Day 14 & 15: For day 14 I had to do stuff so I couldn’t practice that day, but for 15 I just continued practicing advance sentences.
Day 13: I have gone through all the learning lessons, now I’m only doing advance sentences to increase my words wpm. Right now I’m at around 36 wpm, and by the end of the whole course it want me to get to 75 wpm; I’m not sure if I can get to that, I feel as though my “max” is around 55 wpm.
Day 12: All I did today was practice common word patterns and advance sentences; to increase my wpm. The common patterns are fairly easy, and I’m also getting the hang of using the number keys. I was also able to sustain a 50 wpm for 10 seconds today!
Day 11: Today I did some more full sentences and also learned how to do more of the symbol keys (like {}[]±=), I also did better on the full sentences today; felt easier today than it did yesterday.
Day 10: All I did today is practice sentences and tried to get my wpm up. I’m having trouble keeping up with the lessons, my wpm is around 30 right now but the lessons want me to do (for a perfect score) around 40 wpm, and I don’t think I can keep up with it. I feel as though I should take a day to go back and practice things instead of trying to complete more lessons.
Day 9: I learned how to do the symbols today, they were really hard to do because I find that I lose where my fingers are on the keyboard and it messes me up. I also learned how to do more common word patterns too, they were fairly easy to do.
Day 8: Again I mainly just practiced full sentences, the goal was to 30 WPM minimum which I could overall do but there was one lesson that took my 5 tries to get to 30 WPM.
Day 7: I learned how to do numbers today, I thought that it was going to be difficult to do but it was actually fairly easy to do. I also learned more common letter patterns like ine, ted, ave; I was able to do those really fast, on one of them I even got to 42 words per minute and my wpm has went up to around 30 wpm!
Day 6: Today I mainly just practices doing full sentences, using capitals and punctuation. It helped get my speed up, I’m around 28 words per minute right now. I also started to learn how to type tricky words like, lose, loose, and loss.
Day 5: I continued to practice using shift to make capitals, it was a bit easier to do it today then yesterday. I also started to practice common spelling like, and, tion, est, est… I’m getting a little faster at typing regular sentences, my accuracy is a little sloppy but I’m slowly getting the hang of where to place my fingers for certain keys.
Day 4: I started to learn to use the shift, to make capitals. I’ve always used the left shift to type capitals and never the right shift. It feels very weird and hard to use right shift to make something a capital, for me it feels way more comfortable to only use left shift.
Day 3: Today I mainly just practiced typing entire sentences that use the home, top, and bottom rows. My accuracy is a little unstable, but my speed did go up to around 20 words per minute, so I am happy about that.
Day 2: I practiced the bottom row today, I only got one block done but it was pretty hard for me to memorize the bottom row. I also found it felt weird to use the left ring finger to press the x key, and to use my middle finger to press the c key. It feels more natural to use my index finger for the c key and my middle finger for the x key, but I will try to use the way it is suggesting and see if I get use to it.
Day 1: I learned where and how to place my finger properly, and practiced the home row keys and the top row keys. The home row keys weren’t that hard to do, since I kinda learned them back in school. But the top row keys were kinda tough to do, especially the right hand keys for some reason. My words per minute is around twelve right now, but hopefully I can improve it to fifteen within the week.
Estimated Timeframe
Oct 4th - Nov 4th
Week 1 Goal
On the website, lessons are separated into blocks and there is forty-one blocks. I want to do two blocks a day for an hour a day. I want to finish at least ten blocks, if not fourteen blocks for the first week.
Week 2 Goal
On the second week I want to get to around block twenty-eight, and maybe go over any lessons that I have really struggled with.
Week 3 Goal
For the third, I wanna get to around block forty-two, and just go over anything I had trouble with again.
Week 4 Goal
In the last week I want to finish the last blocks if I haven’t already, then just practice typing sentences and see if I can get my words per minute up.
