Week 2 - End of Project?

I was very motivated this week to work on the project, and spent enough time on it that I was able to finish! This was a pattern that was in my back catalog of patterns that I have wanted to try for a long time, and I am glad that I was able to make it! The end result is really comfortable to wear, and keeps me nice and warm. The last parts, after I finished the 20 rows of crochet work, were to crochet the collar and then make ties for the side. I sort of ad libbed that part, because the way the pattern says to do it doesn’t make any sense to my brain at all. So I made it fit how I liked, and I am done!

I wore the outfit to work on Feb 17, and got a lot of complements about the whole ensemble. I felt very early 60ish. Also pictured are my “This Meeting is Bullshit” socks from BlueQ

At this point, I am satisfied with it. I still have lots of time left, and I was thinking about making a second one in a different colourway, but I am not 100% sure. Now that I have done it, I feel confident that I can replicate the result, and I am a fan of how it looks and feels on me. I might pick a smaller pattern to use for the remaining yarn I have that was purchased for this project, I’ll see. In the mean time, enjoy the last of the progress pics.

At work, feeling fun! Who says you can’t see a smile from behind a mask! The ties at the back help to add shape. Dancing to celebrate!

Update 2 - Disaster!

So probably about 10 minutes after I finished my update last night, I realized that somewhere along the line I had added stitches in one of the rows, and my count was off.

When this happens, you have to “Frog” your work. Why do they call taking apart your work “frogging?” Because when you do, you Rip-it Rip-it. XD (I didn’t make this up, this is the term for it).

So, I began pulling things out. And row after row, I couldn’t find where I went wrong. Turns out, on the last stitch of the front panel, I added two of the “clusters” when I should have only added one. “But it’s just two stitches”, one might say, “and it shouldn’t be that bad!”

The problem tends to compound though, as each row is built on the next. And if you aren’t doing the proper stitch counting to check your rows (which I guess I wasn’t last night), then it actually grows. 2 Stitches turned into 3, then eventually 7.

Pulling the yarn off of the work

I am not a happy camper

Luckily I have a ball winder, so I was able to contain the mess and get it into a state where I can start again and not have tangles.

If you are a yarncrafter, I HIGHLY recommend getting a ball winder. It is a marvelous addition to any crafter’s kit. MVP of the day yesterday. And they are SUPER inexpensive. I think mine was like $15 CAD on Amazon?

So, now that I have fixed the issue, I am going to go ahead and keep making my rows.

Update 1 - Midweek 1

Goals:

  • Obtained Materials - I had hooks and needles, just had to get the yarn. I bought more than was recommended in case I need it.
  • Began Work on Project

Boy did I ever get off to a good start! The yarn I bought was the Lion brand Scarfie in the colourway Cream/ Mustard. It sounds like a sandwich, but I like that it’s sort of Day9 yellow, which I felt was good for branding. I also like brighter colours, and I planned on wearing this over top of a turtleneck an dark leggings (as demonstrated in the pattern picture).

First Few Rows

More Rows in

This was around lunch today. I had finished off both the “Front Panel” and “Back Panel”, and now I am working on joining them together

This is this evening, after they were joined, and had two rows worked into it. I still have about 8-9 more rows (I think? Maybe 10),and then the neck finishing. Still a ways to go. Also, bonus puppers!

I feel happy with the progress so far!
