Description
I’ve been working in my current role for about 2.5 years. It’s a good gig but its very unfulfilling to me. I have been avoiding job searching and am hoping that by making it a project I can go from thinking to doing.
Recent Updates
Week 3 update. I got a job offer!!!
Now comes the hard part of negotiating the salary, and evaluating if this is really what I want. It sort of fell in my lap unexpectedly and disrupted my decision process…
Week 2 update. I was somewhat drawn off target this past week but by a fortunate outcome. I was approached by a recruiter about a job at a management consulting firm and I’m very seriously considering it!
I had two interviews and have been doing a ton of follow up to learn more about the firm and analyze the risk/reward of taking the offer.
In the meantime, I also got approached by another recruiter for a job at an organizational development firm. I’ll be doing a discovery call today (Friday).
In the meantime I’ve postponed some of the other activities until I’m through this phase!
Day 6 - 9 update. Was contacted out of the blue for an informal interview at a consulting firm and prepped for the interview by researching the firm and drafting questions.
Fell short of 30 page goal on What Color is your parachute, but this is partially because most of the book is action oriented so its not just reading, there are exercises.
Generated a list of over 83 unique job titles/fields I could be interested in.
Wrote a master list/document of projects and personal accomplishments to reference in interviews and networking.
Day 3 - 5 update. Had another informational interview with a union organizer on Friday, so I hit my informational/networking goal for Week 1! I’ve also got my Resume in good shape!
Focus for today and tomorrow will be on my page goal for What color is your parachute and optimizing my LinkedIn.
Day 2 update Spent about 1 hr or so searching for titles/career paths that fit my interests and skill set.
Also had a networking interview with a woman in my agency and got a few more leads for other offices/people I should connect with.
Scheduled another interview for tomorrow with someone who is a union organizer.
Day 1 update Spent about 1.5-2 hrs today working through my exercises in What Color is my parachute, 5/30 pages down for my weekly goal.
Generated some ideas for target titles/positions/careers.
Got some resume edits from my sister and girlfriend and touched up my resume!

- Subscribe to job boards/newsletters and begin tracking in Job Search 3.0 spreadsheet
Week 4 Goal
- Read 30 pages in What Color is your Parachute
- Schedule 1-2 networking meetings
- Begin applications, target should be 1 to 2 full applications completed.
