Description

My hands/arms were broken in an accident when I was little and I couldn’t go to the doctor for about a week because Bosnia was a warzone at that time so my hands are a bit stiff and sometimes hurt. I never thought I’d be able to play music for that reason and because music just never any made sense to me so now I’m going to learn to play the piano. I’m jumping into the deep end, just like I do with all things in life. I’m going to learn La Catedral, Comptine d’un autre ete, and maybe Pavane for a Dead Princess as a bonus challenge.

I got my friends keyboard set up. I now need to figure out how to record myself playing? How do I show that I’m actually working towards something and how do I show you guys the progress, if any, thats I’m making. A 3 hour video of me fumbling helplessly around a piano doesn’t seem very fun for anyone or practical. Do I just record an attempt at each song at the end of my practice sessions?

What do you guys want to see?

Also to help speed up the learning process I’m going to use annotated sheet music with the notes labeled so I know what key to press for La Catedral. I’m going to use a website called flowkey for the other 2 pieces. I think I might incorporate Synthesia or similar programs to kind of gamify the learning process.

Estimated Timeframe

Mar 10th - Mar 30th

Week 1 Goal

I’m great at timekeeping and schedules and stuff as is clearly evident by the fact that I completely forgot to start my project and only am now realizing its the 10th so there goes the first week. Great start.

Week 2 Goal

Catch up on what I missed in week 1 which is everything. I’ve got to figure out how to play and what to do. Probably learn to read sheet music or find software I can use to speed up the learning process.

Week 3 Goal

I want to be able to play Comptine d’un autre ete from start to finish and start on La Catedral

Week 4 Goal

Finish the first movement of La Catedral and start on Pavane for a Dead Princess. This is already kind of a crazy amount of stuff to learn in 20 days so I know I wont be able to finish Pavane but I want to at least start it and play the first 2 minutes.
