Portfolio upgrade and prep for school application

Bodyburger Education and Career DK30 Fall 2023 0 0

Description

Having graduated from uni about 2 years ago and seeking game industry jobs as unemployed, I want to open new possibilities for my career path, so I decided to apply for a game dev master’s programme. The application box opens 30/11/23, and before that I will create an introduction video as well as upgrade my portfolio a bit with new stuff. Maybe even switch from artstation to some other site that’s more suitable for me. Current portfolio: https://bodyburger.artstation.com/

recap-Week 2

I got an answer, and it seems that I’ll have to apply to somewhere else. Good thing I have searched for other possibilities beforehand! I chose another even more interesting place to study game development at, and I’ve already started planning for it. I need to make some decisions and create things:

  1. What is my top priority in terms which role to learn? Gameplay programmer or Gameplay designer?
    • I started learning game programming, because I wanted to create awesome playable experiences, and so art or design alone wouldn’t cut it.
    • Programming is kind of binary. If I know how to do something and my code works - done. But in art when I make a texture or a 3D character, it could work for some people, but not for everyone. I feel like I can get behind solid skills in programming a lot faster.
    • Game design is artsy as well… BUT it combines all things together, which always intrigues me. The understanding of human behavior comes into play(I enjoy learning about psychology) and I’d get to focus on how the players feel!
  2. Based on this priority, I will make sample projects for the applications during the next few months.
  3. I still need to update my portfolio though, so I’ll capture some footage and edit them into a nice collage before DK30 ends.

      • Waiting for an aswer from school
Bodyburger a year ago

Week 1

  • Fix game projects to be presentable
  • Write a script for introduction video
  • Record intro video
  • Edit intro video

So after doing these I found out that I might not fill all of the requirements for applying, so I decided to send an email asking if I should still apply, given my experience in game development and studies so far.

I am a bit saddened with high hopes, and ready to be disappointed… heheh…
