Be Sociable
Satan Health, Fitness, Food DK30 Fall 2023 3 1
Description
I have not been social these past few years. That is not to say I haven’t talked and been with friends, but outside of the established circle (which are now ALL at least 500km away), I haven’t looked for new friends. In an effort to build up some new social habits I have decided to attend a gamestores Friday Night Magic. Only downside is its 40m away from my home, but I need to get out more.
Recent Updates
Just a quick review post with things I’ve learned: Commander is a REALLY fun format of MtG. A shared hobby can counteract the fact that there is a large number of people, but not completely. I really hate the 40-60 minutes of public transit. A lot. Physical MtG is an expensive hobby. I really enjoy the dynamic that comes with playing Commander - Equal parts ‘tryharding’, having fun, and generally enjoying a game that’s been around for decades in all its decades of splendour. (Except for Gaea’s Cradle.)
Also the most important thing I learned (or rather reaffirmed): I can do things if I think I’ll let other people down, but I find it next to impossible to do things just because they’re good for me.
Overall, it’s been good. Using the extra push from external accountability (even when no one is watching), is good!
I swear, one day I’ll finish editing the book draft.
Hadn’t updated this week, but some friends invited me to play Satisfactory, which was a good excuse to not go because I was already very tired.
Drain has been clogged since monday, and I haven’t been able to get someone in to fix it, so everything has been piling up because I couldn’t use the only usable sink. Next week is the last week of work before vacation, but going to spend some time tomorrow playtesting decks with friends!
Went to Friday Night Magic on Friday again, and played one, two and a half hour game. Was it fun? Absolutely.
Starting to realize that, while I hate large gatherings of people, when everyone shares one goal, one hobby, it becomes infinitely easier to manage my anxiety. Just having fun with strangers, playing against each other… I dunno. But it is pretty fucking great.
The only thing that sucks is the travel time, but … It is manageable.
Its been chaos, I hope Friday is gonna be less chaotic. I need a good nights sleep and a day without all hell breaking loose once I roll out of bed x_x
Signed up for Friday night Magic, hoping that the cards I ordered to upgrade the Tyranid PreCon arrive before then!
I ended up not signing up for this weeks friday night magic, HOWEVER, I instead opted to organize a Spelltable game for some friends and my brother.
I am really starting to get into it, and have now run into the problem every paper magic player runs into at some point: Damn its an expensive hobby.
Did I go to Friday Night Magic? Yes. Did I have a great time? Yes. Did I get my ass absolutely handed to me every game of Commander I played? Yes Did I STILL have boatloads of fun? Yes!
Yes, it was annoying to get there, yes, I was hungry by the end of it, yes people put waaaay too much money into magic decks, but fuck is it a fun game. Sharing a hobby with people made the barrier for small talk infinitely lower, and I feel great about it.
Didn’t go to Friday Night Magic, but did play some Satisfactory with a friend for the first time. Great game, would wait for Concrete again.
So, went there last week, but didn’t play. This week however, I learned you have to sign up in advance, and learned about it too late. I am now organizing something else, possibly playing Factorio or Magic with friends via Steam/Spelltable respectively.
I did however sign up for next week.
