Description
So first of all, the new hashtag pays tribute to Megan Thee Stallion for her fitness, which is cray and inspirational. For this month, we are still keeping the habit of exercise to hit my dragonboating coach’s request that anyone on the team hoping to go to Ravenna, Italy in September 2024 to the International Competition should each paddle, swim, run, indoor cycle, pERG, ERG, or exercise for over 25 miles every week, thus #powerhot25. This means planning when I exercise and how I exercise efficiently, committing to those workouts and doing them, making sure I stay healthy by doing my PT and stretches, checking in here, on the dayknights discord, with my coaches and partner to recognize my progress and reinforce the habit. That being said, I want to also aim for a 3-5 second reduction in benchmark time, so getting a bit faster on both sides, when I benchmark next week, so crossing my fingers.
Recent Updates
Hm I fell off from tracking again
Yeah I can’t recall what happened but I fell off tracking 6 weeks ago. Anywho, wrapped up April a bit below target but spent the next 3 weeks in May on target before traveling, getting sick, and getting really busy at work put me out of commission from exercising for those 3 weeks.
Historical tracker here Here’s my progress from week of April 29th all the way June 9th: April 29th - 13.725 miles May 6th - 25.28 miles May 13th - 25.3 miles May 20th - 32.175 miles May 27th - 3.75 miles June 3rd - 21.5647607 miles
Even though i was still recovering, I definitely got walking and movement in last week, which is great! Definitely putting the work in this week to get back on track though =)
Calling this one done and starting a new project!
Much needed rest week(s) and ramping back up this week
I’ve been just exhausted either mentally or physically this past couple of weeks. I took the entire week off the week of April 15th, and at least went to practice last week and got quite a bit of walking in. Hoping to pick it back up this week, but I am definitely listening to my body FIRST.
Total miles week of April 15th: 6 miles
Total miles week of April 22nd: 14.9 miles
Upcoming
- I was talking to the Career coach that my work is sponsoring for me and am going to spend some time thinking about the plan moving forward until September to uplevel my training but still maintain a good balance of recovery and stress, and putting a plan into practice by breaking it down into pieces and making it actionable for me. May’s dk30 will be in the theme of putting some of this in to action.
- I’m working with my coach to get me connected to an NYC team so I can paddle with them when I travel there Memorial Day weekend. Should be fun, though I’m not looking forward to it if it’s in the Hudson, especially if that water is worse than Lake Merced (which I have dubbed the Bog because of its 24/7/365 naturally green water)
- Still aiming for 5 second improvement on time for both left and right side this upcoming month, which is why I need to plan my training and recovery routine with more care.
I may be dead, but we way ahead with achievements this week
I didn’t realize I drove to SF Mon-Thurs (1-1.5hours round trip each time), Mon and Tues for benchmark and water practice with my dragonboating team, Wed and Thurs for a full-day, 2 day conference, until my partner reminded me that’s why I’m exhausted.
Despite that, I got double practice done today and went to visit a newer teammate who has a pERG closer to where I usually am Saturday.
Also, the team is now doing WEEKLY DOUBLE PRACTICE on Sundays, so it’ll be a lot easier for me to get my 25 miles moving forward yayyyyyyyyy.
Way caught up on the missing miles in prior weeks. I am also starving so my partner better get back soon or I’m going to get hangry.
Total miles this week: 35.9 miles
Upcoming
- Still gotta get out on the single boat. Hopefully this or next week - I just realized I have plans Saturday again with some friends and I was going to do it that day.
- Need to take it easy so I’m skipping Tuesday practice this week. Also it’s my mom’s birthday so I want to just go home after work.
- Super excited for having scheduled 2 days of PTO for Wed and Thursday in anticipation of mom’s birthday yayyyyyyy.
- I hope to not starve soon.
benchmark update: we faster!
PRed both sides, still not under 3 min on right side, but 5.8 seconds faster on the left. aiming for big improvement next month!
benchmark on paddle erg ( rowing machine with paddle attachments )
right side: 3 min 2.2 seconds
2.4 seconds faster!!
left side: 2 min 54.0 seconds
5.8 seconds faster!!!
observations
- weakest stretch is 300-400m, sometimes by a whole 5-10 seconds, so i am going to ask coaches for advice on keeping the rate and power up when I’m feeling moat tired
- generally coaches and teammates are giving me feedback that i gotta hold up my core and connect my body to my paddle stroke so i am using the muscles of my entire body to put power into the stroke rather than just using arms usually
Less miles than anticipated during double practice, but still got that 25 in
Since folks are being encouraged to stay for double practice after the first elite practice and to max practice time, some elite folks didn’t go to the WC in the very short transition time between elite and the everyone practice, so 2 boats stopped for 10-20 min during practice and a bunch of folks went to the restroom. I submitted feedback to one of the practice organizers/coaches to extend the transition time between practice and encourage people to go peepee and poopoo at that time because I want more water time, and I’m sure the folks who only come to everyone practice want more water time.
That being said, I got my 25 miles in this week! 27 miles, to be specific! My partner and I actually took a long walk to get lunch today to make sure I got the 25 miles and some more, because I would have been at 23.5miles if we didn’t take that walk! Hope to get the extra 3 miles in next week. And really pumped to break some records tomorrow during pERG benchmark night!
Total miles this week: 27.6 miles
Upcoming
- Going to do a special post tomorrow night to let ya’ll know if I broke my record for Benchmarks.
- Also going to Tuesday night practice, for the first time! Should be fun!
- As long as I’m not dead Thursday, and if it’s not windy and rainy Saturday, I will likely ask to paddle on the single person boat on Saturday with my teammate. I really look forward to it!
