Zeroing out my "Watch Later" list

Description
I have 510 entries on my Youtube “watch later” playlist. I want to clean that up by watching them to completion or at least as far as I am interested in them. Maybe include some highlights of interesting things learned or particularly enjoyed.
Recent Updates
Day 26: 0 Remaining
Well, the list is about to get some additional entries again, but at this particular moment in time, it is done! From now on, no more than 20 entires, and those get cleared out once a week (I’m gonna say on Sundays but who knows whatever time will work out best later).
The final summary of today’s videos watched! Comprehensive look at tessalating shapes, history of locks, Mycopunk an fps with DRG-like progression, Live 2d basics, multiple houserules tips for ttrpgs/DnD/hexcrawls, Are VPN’s necessary, and painting minis with nail art stamps.
Next project? maybe I’ll try out the Brilliant 30 day trial and see what I can learn. Or go back and finish off my ttrpg. Still looking at making a hololive knock-off of Witching Stone (hopefully getting that game a nice bit of advertising because I love it alot).
Day 25: 20 remaining
The end is in sight! Today’s most interesting videos: Q = E + S + T, Are data deletion services a scam, Ruka (formerly Chloe) Karaoke, Art History with Raden, Theft mechanics in Video Games, Spring Anime in a Nutshell, Farewell Gura tributes, examining “Perlin Noise”, “F#ck you, pay me”, AI powered vending machines, Laser Cutting wargaming terrain, tips for using a woodworking Router, and an old Void Marauders review.
Day 24: 35 remaining
Todays videos: multiple “board game table” building videos, saved the most useful ones to my woodworking project playlist. multiple videos reviewing the “eufymake e1”. Building a desk with aluminum extrusion, historical context surrounding the Game Boy Advance, and why apple arcade Galaga is a nightmare “free top play” game. Also similar to yesterday, more old game reviews and programming tutorials I’m not ready to use yet.
Day 23: 60 Remaining
Videos: a bunch of old video game reviews from 2-4 years ago that never (or players wish hadn’t) made it out of the demo stage, some niche game dev explanation videos for game engines I don’t know enough about yet so If I ever need them I’ll just search them up later, and some vlogs from small creators including about van life, working music festivals, and buliding a murphy bed. Also several videos that were privated and two that were livestreams that were taken down by SME.
Day 22: 80 remaining (Week 3 goal done!)
Videos: Xyla Foxlin doing neon and combustion, Adam Savage building a cleated shelf for his workshop and talking about angle finders and staple/nail guns, an airfan powered bicycle, Creation of the first true clock in a monastery, several game reviews including Airships Adrift, Stellar Wanderer, and proZDs 15 shortest games, and an analysis of TIE fighter artistic design.
Day 21: 100 remaining
Videos: a bunch of intermediate blender/3d art tutorials that I moved to an appropriate playlist, a few videos about how modern socialism is different than cold war era “socialism”, many wonders of Tardigrades, several retro handheld reviews, and “the secret to precise movement” exploring how to get micron accurate movement that is also millions of times faster at the highest speed rather than just a few hundred or thousand.
Day 19 and 20: 124 remaining
kind of took a day off yesterday, so decided to blitz through double on day 20. Videos on Grease Pencil, basics of electrical circuits, Programming resources Godot and Paper ZD, Tips for learning Japanese, diy haptic gloves, a tiny home build starting with a pickup truck and putting the box on the frame of it, some PCB creation videos (moved to the small electronics playlist), and Kyle Hill’s presentation on “do we have free will?”, and a bunch of Steam Wargame Fest trailers both added to and removed from the list.
Day 18: 156 remaining
Today’s video: multiple videos on crafting enamel pins, wtf is deltatime, some motivational videos for how to learn programming/art/crafting and then ignoring them because i realize the video from 2 days ago about ADHD motivation were more applicable to me, and A few hololive songs I hadn’t gotten around to listening to.
Day 17: 174 remaining
today’s videos: Journey across Japan: frozen frontier, Star Trek ToS functional tricorder review, dead battery repair, using raytracing for audio, pros and cons of minimaps in games, and investigating a contactless motor with no permanent magnets, and the ingenious development of the 2 liter soda bottle.
Day 16: 190 remaining
Nature follows the least action, but I wouldn’t be able to explain it to someone, thanks Veritasium. Also holograms are neat but I couldn’t explain those either thanks 3b1b. Some random info about nails and then making hammers out of ice, more for weird amusement than anything. ADHD aka Dopamine Deficient produtivity 4 Cs: Captivate Create Compete Complete, don’t try to use “motivation” techniques made for autodosers (Why should we have to say we aren’t the “typical” neurological setting when it’s just as possible that drug creating brains that are weird??). lastly, old waterwheel power hammers are massive.
Hiatus over: Temperatures are back in the 90s F again so no better time to be back indoors. Later than expected but still here to finish. in The interim I actually managed to get my list down to 150 or so casually, but it has since ballooned back up to 209 so time to re-evaluate targets again.
Week 3 (Apr24): Goal 17/day, 209 -> 90
Week 4 (May1): Goal 15/day, 90 -> 0 + a two day leeway
Going to officially start again tomorrow (Apr 24)
Day 15 - 170 remaining, going on hiatus
Today’s videos: logistics in modern militaries and the Narco Sub, voice training for lower voice pitch, using equations for procedural 3d animation, and several interviews by The Anime Man.
I’m going to be putting this project on pause. The weather where I live is finally cool enough to do outdoor activities, so while its here I’d like to do other projects that I’ve been putting off. That and I could use a break, watching too much Youtube can rot the brain a bit methinks. Will come back to finish the project in February/March 2025 when the temperature becomes unbearable again, but I wanted to get to a good stopping point and I think being exactly halfway through the timeline and exactly 2/3 done with my list is mathematically pleasing to me. Though I expect I’ll still reduce my watch later list during this time, but only by 1 or 2 videos at a time. Mostly my electrical, woodworking, and other DIY tutorials tutorials as things that I will do in a practical sense instead of just watching.
Day 14 - 185 remaining
Today’s videos: pi on piano, miku MMDs, Hades’ priority/flag based narrative structure, why gas giants are actually liquid giants and would not float, and why 32-hour work weeks work and why we can’t have that in America.
Day 13 - 200 remaining
was pretty busy today but also ended up watching some longer new videos instead of the backlog >.>
still got a few old ones in, mostly political/economic videos about transportation infrastructure and why Public Transport and Bike-based transport in the U.S. sucks.
Day 12 - 205 remaining
did a full path of “In Space With Markiplier 2”. That only counted as one video watched but I’m counting this as my “active participation” video for the day. It was neat but I don’t feel any particular urge to do another path with all blind 50/50 choices
After that watched some PICO 8 and UE5 updates, how to play Gaslands, and some Art History with Juufutei Raden.
Day 11 - 220 remaining
nothing today, needed a little break so I could prepare for tonight’s gaming session and touch some grass. Today was the nicest weather we’ve had down here since February.
Day 10 - 220 remaining
Forgot to mention yesterday I’ve started sorting my watch later videos differently, so I’ve been watching the “Most Popular” ones yesterday and today. This time I got several videos about UE5 improvements, nuclear power vs coal power pollution comparisons, and several lists of “cool tools or your workshop that you can 3d print”. Still haven’t gotten around to actually tuning up my bandsaw yet though…
Day 9 - 235 remaining (Week 2 Goal done!)
learned about the history of the micromouse competition, about New Horizons and the pictures it took and is taking of Pluto and beyond, The plastic recycling crisis(?)/scam(?), and watched a bunch of Kurzgesast including rabies, bioweapons, and how to make friends (no relation between those I swear!).
Day 8 - 250 remaining
Just a light day today, some 90s DOS games nostalgia and how toilet paper makes suprisingly good black powder. I’m running into more videos that are instructional that I saved so I could do something (like cleaning and aligning my bandsaw) so I think I’ll start aiming a little lower than my weekly predictions and try to get one of those work-along videos done each day as well. We’ll see how that works out starting tomorrow.
Day 7b - 261 remaining
Finally went through the list and moved all the hour+ livestreams to a different playlist (all ones that I would listen to as background sound and not actively need to pay attention to). Removed all the livestreams of streamers I’m no longer interested in, and also removed all the videos that have since been privated (no way to even know what they were, and no way weever will know because who actually ever un-privates a video?)
Day 7 - 350 Remaining
learned how to make an electret (like a magnet but static electricity), learned a bit about medieval vs modern crossbows, and some more indie game reviews (added “Lunacid” to my wishlist). skipped out on a few obsolete videos as well, like steam deck 1 year anniverasary review and WotC product release controversies.
Day 6 - 370 remaining (Week 1 Goal done!)
some interesting watches today were some old video game reviews (like from steam fest 2023), some diy camper trailer videos, and amazon scams.
bigger thing today, I started moving some of the very specialized watch later videos that require me to do something beyond just watching them to new playlists. I’ve got 5 videos on my “How to make a Vtuber” playlist, most of them being 2+ hours long. Will probably also be doing another soon for shop tool maintenance and one for 3d modeling. Does this count as watching tem and removing them from my list? Maybe… not really? I dunno but the current metric of reducing my immediate watch later playlist is continuing, and the other playlists can be dealt with later when appropriate.
Day 5 - 400 remaining. Decided to skip a little farther down the list today, videos from several months to ~a year ago. There were a fair number that I had actually watched already so I cleaned them up, but I did find another problem that might be coming in the future: I have encountered multiple videos that were the first of their own playlist that I was interested. Not sure what I’m going to do with those yet so I’m just putting them off for now.
Apart from that, today was mostly animations, game reviews, portable game system reviews, and camper trailer reviews. Nothing added to my shopping/wish lists though
Day 4 - 425 remaining Got a few extra in today. Some videos about Nitinol and a neat application as bike wheels. Several TTRPG terrain modelling, sysytems reviews including Alien, VTT reviews, ship to ship combat homebrews. Then a few entertainment analysis videos, including How to Train Your Dragon’s Hiccup and Atrid relationship therapy and Sousou no Fireren 3rd Test analysis. Interviews with the designers of South Korea’s landfilled “smart” city.
Day 3 - 450 remaining. Got through a couple long ones today after doing a few extras after check-in yesterday. This group had several art tutorials (even though I never do art >.> ), Hololive Aqua’s graduation and a few related reactions, tile-based map generation related to “Townscaper” and “Bad North”, a few tool tips about frame saws, and some metal working tips.
Day 2 - 470 remaining. The problem with some of these videos is after watching them I have something new to add to the list watch later list >.> This group had some interesting game programming videos (of which I understood concepts but are way beyond my current programming ability), a few interviews, a couple mini paining tutorials which I moved to another playlist for later reference, and some exploration of japanese Buddhist monk and samurai culture.
I actually added like 5 new videos to the list, so I actually have watched 25 today by the end of everything. We’ll let future me worry about if that is a problem when they come back up in week 4!
Day 1 - 490 remaining. This group was mostly woodworking videos of people building various things for their shop. had a few other interesting ones like how to make holograms and how some reviews of ARM based computers like the Raspberrry pi 5.
moved 3 videos to other playlists to use as reference later. Also, anything over 1 hour I’ll propbably just do a small portion of to see if I still want to watch it later in which case it can go to the bottom of the pile.
