Game Design for Board Game Project Code: Dark
Ismortah GameDev DK30 Fall 2023 0 0
Description
Updating the game design till end of year for one of my board games with the project code name: Dark. The goal is to finalize core mechanics and UI placement to allow for extensive testing next year and before art starts.
Recent Updates
1/22 - Everything taking longer then expected… but still incremental progress! Have how making the build locked. Plan to now do playtests so I know how to iterate next. This will be my final update. I got a solid alpha build I can now run with.
1/14 - Froze the layout and rules. Currently constructing an alpha build out of note cards and borrowing components from other games. Goal to do a few rounds of tests this weekend.
1/5 - Making progress! Found an issue with the layout for the playerboards currently correcting. Last change before making the alpha build, which will work on this week. Will extend the timeframe a week so I can get a couple rounds of testing post-build.
12/30 - Last rules tweaks made! Now just putting together coherent enough rules and making the Alpha build components (proving the concept nothing ideal look/feel…just allow the game to be played).
12/22 - Another week of trying to lock down UI. Fun new ideas for player pieces and the game/player boards. But putting the break on anymore iterative design for now…gotta make a playable build! Finalizing the current rules so everything makes sense and then will spend next week making the build so I can test end of year!
12/15 - Spent the week working on UI color pallet, token designs and how doing player characters. Tweaked rules for usability some more as well. Plan to design lock for now and work on putting together my Alpha build next week.
12/8 - Reviewed all mechanics and made many small tweaks for better immersion, fair play, and just a more fun experience. Currently updating how rules work together so easy to understand. Plan to have a build put together next weekend for testing gameplay.
