Daily drawing coursework
Shenanigator Visual Art DK30 Fall 2023 0 0
Description
I have decided on my goal to become a hireable artist when I hit age 36 (which is a bit less than 3 years from now). To achieve that, I will do daily exercises based on the drawabox free course, while also attempting to work through the lessons. My goal is to upload something to a website every day, even if sometimes its just a box.
Recent Updates
This is it. Last day. Drawing should now be a habit, kind of. And it has become one, although I still have to fight to do it some days. But at least I am not forgetting about it, or my brain is not forgetting it for me.
Nowhere near the goals I set, but that’S fine. I rally want to achieve my goal, but It will take more time to really make changes in my life.
Another three boxes down! https://imgur.com/a/Cog9Xxz
Today was a fun drawing day. I saw a bridge in the new gothic trailer, so naturally I wanted to draw a brighe, and I did! Time flew, so I am slowly learning to have fun doing the process.
Decided to change my work plan. I will now conciously do one day of work, one day of play. Otherwise I will get lost in the work, then it’s too late to playdraw. I am pretty sure that’s an advanced level of procrastinating something I am worried about
Took some days off, because I had too. Now I am back and off to do the 250 Boxes challenge!
Clearly I overestimated my Goal setting, I kinda spaced on HOW LONG 250 boxes will take, it’s more in perspective if you break it down. 10 Boxes a day means 25 days. Still, I am very happy with my progress for now. Let’s see how far I get before day30 arrives!
Forgot to post yesterday! So the results of two days work, although I am still hard pressed at my employed work.
That said, tomorrow I will collect all the homework pages I created, then submit those to drawabox for critique.
Afterwards it’s hopefully onto the 250 Boxes challenge. If I manage to finish THAT huge cluster of time, I might be over my selfdoubt hump!
Finished the first organic perspective homework page
Bad day.
Not much going on. Sunday is most of the time visitor day, so not much time. But, another day done. No excuses!
The break from doing exercises and lessons was much needed. Felt very different from before, like my arm finally had a chance to process the lessons. Take breaks!
Today I decided to only do warmup and fun. Just to break it up. Theme is “Clowns in a bank” which became “Programmers in a Teams meeting”. Personally, I am quite happy with it!. Although you’d probably need to know them. Great people!
My sleep schedule is all buggered up, so its 3 am here. This still counts as daily imo!
Did more perspective work and then overcame my worries and just started drawing Stolas from Helluva Boss. I used an image of him for reference, but I still count it as fun, because simply doing it, not worrying about wether I do the character justice, kind of switched a flip and quieted some doubts.
Day 12 done. Still no fun stuff, work is currently taking a lot of time out of my day, and the perspective homework also takes lots of time to do. Once I am doing it, I usually stick to it and then its way too late do fun drawings anymore. Till try to find a better balance tomorrow, try to condition myself to reduce the amount of learning so i can balance it out.
Finished rough perspective with quite decent results I think. Warumup plotted perspective helped I think. Also prepped for the rotated boxes exercises, but I am exhausted so calling it an early day.
Hopefully tomorrow I got more energy and also get to do some fun drawing too!
Day 10 done! Its a sunday, so i had a lot more time, and I used it. I only did 1 1/2 pages of the rough perspective exercise, also finished up the plotted perspective I had left over.
Perspective and boxes take me a lot of time still, took about 3-4 hours.
I missed a day. My habitual response says: thats terrible and must mean I don’t REALLY want to achieve my goal, so better stop now, failing later will hurt more.
To that I say: FUCK YOU, BAD HABITS.
So today I did more (only had two or three boxes in the plotted perspective exercise done) than usual. The perspective work took a lot of time so it seems not so much, but I am happy with myself.
Work ran way late today, so no fun drawing sadly. It’s 1 am here. Still, started plotting perspective (that takes a lot of time to do) and a decent warmup!
Even a not great day is a day done!
Bad day today, but a bunch of theory done anyway. Also did warmup, just to have drawn something, because that’s turning out to be more and more fun for me :) I am so glad to seemingly get back enjoyment. Slowly, but still!
Added some fun work after the fact. Since I had to work with Python all day, it had to be snek themed
Today I managed two exercises, or rather their homework. I also added them to my index card roster for potential warmups. Currently watching DBZA (again), so for my play I got inspired by Trunks hair. It turned out better than I would’ve thought! That was fun!
Added another day to the roster! This time ellipses. I remember them from years back, they always give me a hard time. That said, I think I got better at feeling my shoulder when drawing. Still need to work on deformation from circles, because I want to fit them. Gotta get into the same mindset as with lines: Smooth and confident, even if inaccurate.
Edit: Almost managed to talk myself out of the “Play” part of the couse. Not this time, brain. Its not much, but it HAS BEEN DONE.
Better late then never.
Did Ghosting lines and Ghosting planes exercises from Lesson 1. Used superimposed lines as warmup exercise.
Then went on for some playtime drawing, although I was NOT feeling it today. Still, managed some neat stuff (imo) and the results don’t matter here anyway. It’s getting more familiar to just draw though!
Finished up Lesson 0, now starting Lesson 1. Had a visitor all day, so didn’t do as much as I would’ve otherwise, but still very happy with how it turned out. The drawing for fun was also very entertaining today, which makes me hopeful I will simply be able to enjoy the action of drawing soon :) Somehow I unlearned enjoying stuff for stuffs sake
Almost done with Lesson 0, lol. However decided that I do my playstuff already, because I am hype! Will finish Lesson 0 later today, or tomorrow while also starting Lesson 1
