Initial thoughts on Event Cards design:

I want a feel similar to Talisman, of placing down a card and “permanently” changing the tiles. However, the size of my board is already too great, so instead I think a Token system might fit better. It might need a ton of tokens though, which could also be an issue due to simply bloating the game space too much. As such, a “limit” on the number of “active” events could be the way to go. Will most likely have to play around with it, to see what works.

When it comes to design of the cards themselves I’m thinking:

  • Gym Cards (As long as the Gym event card is “active” the Gym can be challenged for the badge aka Victory Point) [Gym battles don’t actually fight the gym leader, instead it’s a PvP match where the winner takes the badge]

  • World changing cards. Think placing down a Snorlax to block a particular tile. These cards could even have the bonus attribute of immediately discarding themselves after affecting the world, to not clutter the “active Event Card” zone, with events which are uninteractive after the fact.

  • Pseudo permanent events, think Fountain of Wisdom or Marsh from Talisman. Essentially, a card that stays out on the map. You can interact with it, but it doesn’t grant you VP (or at least not necessarily).

My current concern is visual clarity. Making unique tokens for each and every pseudo permanent event card, would probably need a ton of tokens. Making more generic “re-useable” ones could impede visual clarity quite a bit. Not sure which direction to go with that just yet
