Description

I’ve been working on a poker/blackjack roguelike for some time now. I’d like to try and publish a demo and possibly an early access version of the game for Steam Next Fest in October.

Day 21 - 30:

Did the best I could. Completed the following tasks: Final score in poker eval box should be bigger. Fix When I had a single queen selected the ScoreBreakdownUI displayed 0 x 1 instead of 12 x 1. Setup simulations for balancing. Fix Blindfold Relic doesn’t hide multiplier. Add Image floating events signs. Fix At start of game at first the location there is an animated dashed line to the second stage locations but the lines should be straight. Fix the floating text from ControlsPanel on Chips, Actions & Coins shows above the FloatingEffectsPanels and it shouldn’t. Fix Loaded Gun relic doesn’t seem to work. When discarding a Spade, it doesn not seem to give +25 Points. Fix Emergency flare relic to be < 10% chips. Rework Vampire’s Tooth relic. Change Regicide relic burn the king and restore the chips at the same time. Fix Joker doesn’t seem to count towards rainbow poker hand. Fix The Guillotine relic does not seem to burn face cards after scoring. Fix Magnifying Glass relic doesn’t show next card from draw pile. Make so Relics that are already owned should not be avalaible in the shop. Make relics use texture atlases instead of induvidual images. Make relics bob up and down to create a wavy pattern. Fix too many relics go off the edges of the table and screen. 14 seems like maximum. Make relics scrollabe.

Days 9 - 20:

There was a heat wave and somethings came up so work on the project has slowed a bit. Completed the following tasks: Rework top bar to bottom right. Fix drafter class doesn’t display cards. Fix starting menus and transitions. Make start menu. Fix starting menus and transitions. Fix if mouse is hovering over the card it lifts the card but if then it goes over UI the cards stay lifted. Fix Saving/Loading issues. Fix map scrolling issues. Fix leaving the game while at a table without completing it, skips the table and move onto the next location when continuing from the start menu. Fix stage label & card piles don’t update until table is fully showing/zoomed in. Add number of cards to Full Deck button. Fix sometime when I draw a card the card on the left of my hand (and possibly other cards) is raised as if the mouse is hovering over it even thought it’s not. It might have briefly been hovering over it while it was being drawn. Add Game Over button to Sandbox (IG) controls that immediately loses the game. Rework Game Over panel. Fix when the gameover screen ends the table is still displayed. Fix when sticking, the same floating text appears twice above coins. i.e. if I have 3 actions remaining, +3 appears twice above the coins even though coins only increase by 3. Level out top text. Make sure ScoreBreakdownUI bar doesn’t add third line. Rework scoring for above 5 cards. Allow scoring over 5 cards. Fix I had a hand with 2 2’s, 2 3’s and 2 Aces with a maximum scoring size of 5. It’s scored the 2’s and the 3’s but the 3’s and Aces were worth more. Put total ranks at bottom of overlay panels for piles/deck. Make starting diamond cards give +2 to +7 coins instead of +1. Fix ScoreBreakdownUI ordering. Rework discard sound. Rework sfx (add woosh). Audio effects manager in game with UI. Replace map icons. Add player marker. Add next location pulsing alpha, surrounding circles and arrow indicator. Add smooth transitions between map locations. Fade location UI menus in and out. Animate map paths between locations. Sort map paths in general.

Days 7 - 8:

I wanted to release the game as a demo for the upcoming Steam Next Fest in June however I’ve found out that the cutoff for applications was over a month ago so I won’t be able to do that and releasing a demo while there is a specific festival promoting other demos seems like a bad idea so I’ve reconsidered the project and decided to give myself a bit more time and try to get a demo submitted for Steam Next Fest in October instead. Regardless I’m glad I’ve started to seriously look into this sort of release strategy detail stuff and sign up for accounts etc etc. Spent the last few days thinking this stuff through, trying to make decisions and pivot in a new direction. Also completed the following tasks: Add random starter class. Make full deck UI view look the same as 3D card view.

Day 6:

Project Backup. Fix burned cards show entire spritesheet as main image while being burned. Add bevels to card rank and suits. Setup Github & Twtich accounts. Fix debugging tools.

Days 4 - 5:

Setup up a new E-mail, Steam Dev, Youtube, Reddit & Bluesky accounts. Project Backup. Increase chips including cost and rewards by factor of 10 so starting with 100 chips instead of 10. Fix debugging menu. Rework main card image and fix highlighting.

Day 3.

So after a chat with Google Gemini it advised me to sort out the Steam account sooner rather than later, so I will be doing that tomorrow. Spent quite a bit of today brainstorming studio and game names with the assistance of the AI chatbots. Completed the following tasks:

Project Backup. Fix 3 rest sites in a row on map. Make Autoplay AI better. Fix tricks not working. Fix floating text numbers too big and going up too far? Allow player to play mutliple chips to multiply score (i.e. 5 chips = 5x score). Brainstorming names.

Day 2.

Had some issues with my Windows OS and since I’m on a fairly old PC I decided to try switching to Linux Mint to see if game dev would work from there. Seems to be going ok.

Completed the following tasks:

Project Backup. Fix burn card reward burns wrong card. Fix reward panel covers chips. Fix chip, action, coin floating text. More table locations on map.

Day 1.

Completed the following tasks:

Fix highlights appearing behind symbols. Draggable Cards. Spritesheet for Rank/Suit instead of text. Make rank and suit emission glow at same time as main image. Stop cards raising when they are already raised via evaluation. Dragging one card onto table then back then another drags both onto the table. Fade UI ControlsPanel when dragging cards. Fix drawing a card resets the card up/down hover animation. Add 2 relics. Fix keep/skip button width.
