Description

I have a simple goal! I wanna walk most mornings since it makes me feel good for the rest of the day! I’ll be walking 30m a day 6 days a week minimum! I want to be sure to log frequently how I’m doing and pat myself on the back :). The biggest thing I’m excited about is how EASY this feels to incorporate into my schedule! Especially if I want to call friends and have nice, juicy conversations, I can get both social and healthful time at the same time! Man I’m really pleased by this right now!

Overall I feel like I totally fucking rule! I walked 86 miles in the 30 days of DK30! (10/13 to 11/15). A few notable insights

  • I really need to track EVERYTHING more. I completely bailed on tracking/posting for the last 3 weeks - mentally I figured “I just walk every day and then don’t on Saturdays so… nothing much TO track”. As you’ll note in the daily posts below, some days were WAY longer than others, and I even punted on walking a few times. At the time, I thought “gah you fell behind but that’s okay just try to make up for it on a later day” etc. By the end, I thought that I’d done only a so-so job but, WOW was I wrong! I can’t believe how regular I was about doing physically healthy things! In this very moment, I feel SO pumped! So, in the future and for many of my current projects I should really push hard to do simple, tiny tracking things (google sheets probably) just to PUMP MY EGO UP!

  • I need to beat myself up less. Though I am a cheerful human on air, I tend to have a very very harsh inner voice/monster. I genuinely thought I was not doing that great of a job with regularity. Funny how my brain LIES to me. Doing the above tracking should be very helpful.

  • I’m a bit embarrassed to say but, because of the weight gain / physical inactivity during COVID, my knees did NOT like supporting my new weight LOL. The backs of my knees were swelling up which was causing a good amount of discomfort while streaming (and hence, the motivation to seek out a new chair as hamstring pain + swollen knees do NOT feel good). I think I should I have taken more opportunity to rest or plan a gentler onramp of physical activity.

  • The biggest thing that helped me loads was calling friends or doing work calls while walking. I’m really hoping to get a better noise filter on my phone and take more work calls while walking outside. I wind up with SO many hours of meetings a week that layering that w/ physical activity would be SUPER RAD. Even if not, I found that I was more social during the DK30 because I constantly sought out friends to call and keep me company while walking :D. Best of both worlds!

Wednesday I walked for 90 minutes! I didn’t get up early the way I wanted to this morning but I still walked 40m tonight! So far this is 4mi on Wed and 1.8 today! I feel like tracking it and also hooray exclamation marks
